Brushes for Facial Features on figures?

Post by cameron123 »

Hey guys, I am currently doing some German Normandy infantry figures and I need some help. So I have everything painted (coat, pants gun accessories etc) and now im on the face/hands step. I am looking for a brush small enough to do the Eyes. You guys know of any brushes/tips I could use to help me?

Winsor Newton series 7 are the best brushes I've used so far, natural sable hair, well made and last forever if taken care off. Not cheap but well worth the money

Paul is spot on! Nothing better for detail painting than a Kolinsky Sable and, for me too, W&N are at the top of that particular brush tree. For the eyes on a 1/35 figure it's the tip of the brush that counts and kolinsky sable holds the finest of points. As for size, a 3/0 (very small) and a number 1 (a good all rounder and the brush I use for 95% of the time, even on the smallest of features) will be a good starter set.

To end on a downer, I think the USA has banned the import of Kolinsky Sable, so the popular sizes might be difficult to track down on home soil ( check D ick Blick for availability). Dealers on this side of the pond will be happy to take your money though!
