First time spraying Tamiya Acrylic

Post by robertw »

Wow, let me just say that I've never, ever had something spray this good. 50/50 thinner and paint and it sprayed like a dream. I was so impressed that I'm thinking of throwing a good bit of money down and add some more colors as I've only got 5 at the moment. Where is the best place to buy in the states?

50/50 huh? I spray 2/1 paint/thinner and it sprays really well. I can find it at every hobby store around wisconsin, although if i'm not mistaken Hobby Lobby recently stopped carrying it and started carrying model color instead. Which i only use for detail brush painting as it sprays from my brush like a pig no matter how much i thin it. Tamiya acrylics are fantastic, you should have no problem finding them.

Unfortunately where I live the only hobby store is Hobby Lobby and they only carry Tamiya primer. Model Master/Testors is a pain in the arse to get thinned properly.

Yeah, agreed you need to find Tamiya. There are sites, and you can bulk order from ebay sellers. I'll have look a look around. I know Hobby Lobby did carry it in 2010 because i have a pot i got there. No local mom and pop shop huh? As crap as the hobby shop scene is in Madison, at least we have a few of those. I have to drive 2 hours to get Life Color or Humbrol though.

You buy it directly from TamiyaUSA

http://www.tamiyausa.com

I buy mine locally at my HobbyTown USA.

It seems some of the items are retailed by store. My HobbyLobby stocks a good amount of Tamiya modelling products and Vallejo Model Color.
If only they'd improve their kit selection

They had the same 5 german armor models for a long time. Most of my first kits are those 5 models.

I bought quite a bit off of internethobbies.com

Closest mom and pop shop is an hour and a half away and I haven't been there since I got back into models so I don't know what they carry. Hell, even my local walmart quit stocking model stuff.

My local Hobby Lobby stocks primer and tools but no paint. Mostly Testors/Model Masters. Kit selection is so so. Mostly Revell and a handful of Tamiya.

I would avoid getting stuff from Tamiya USA. It is just way too pricey!

Check www.scalehobbyist.com

I got the entire Tamiya range from them. 23 mL bottles at $2.23 a pop. Bargain!
