Can Super glue burn you?

Post by CJSomerset »

Just sticking some parts to tooth picks when I noticed that the super glue nozzle was looking "gummed" up, so I grabbed some kitchen roll and gave it a wipe.

Immediately my fingers stuck - with a pain that felt like burning!

Not wishing a trip to A&E I quickly ripped them apart and the pain stopped. I've stuck my self to loads of things in the past, but never felt burning :
Some days it's not even worth chewing through the restraints!

Get some super glue de-bonder. You never want to rip your fingers apart when they are stuck. Then wash your hands afterwards.

Acetone/nail polish remover is also a good debonder in finger cases.
Don't use it on plastic.. it tends to fog/damage the plastic.

I have never had it burn my skin but it does burn my eyes from the fumes. Hate the smell. I have a bleeding problem from blood thinners I have to take. So when I need to stop bleeding on a cut or scratch I turn to the trusty ca glue because bandaids don't work. Works great.

I'd forgotten that it was developed for sealing wounds, so the burning thing makes even less sense now. I wonder if I had something else on my fingers that made it burn.

I normally would but this was like picking up a hot coal, and the the thought of super gluing a hot coal to my fingers was enough to make rip them apart

I know cotton and CA gets really hot, maybe that kitchen roll also, for some reason, reacted with the glue. Just guessing here!
