The project is finally finished and before I get to the pictures I want to type down some final conclusions on this build. If you have followed my build thread, you will be able to recognize the different challenges that was undertaken during this build. Link to the build-thread This was my first participation in a group event as a modeller. An experience I relished since there is a lot more input from other modellers. It is also fun to see what subjects other people have chosen. I will do it again for sure!

Missions:

To build something different: I think I can say that I succeeded in this as I was the only one to build a japanese aircraft in this SiG.
To do something special with the finished result: From the beginning I wanted to do a crashing plane in mid air with some major damage. The idea was to build the last fighter that was shot down in WWII as the SAIUN was the last plane to be shot down before the war ended. This idea was changed since the fit of the landing bay doors was too lousy for the aircraft to be shown in flight. I then decided to do something cool with the base, like a flag or something.
Learning: This aircraft was to be built with rigging (not included) which was a first for me. Great learning experience. The cheap quality of the kit also demanded a high number of improvisations which also provided several firsts (sawing clear parts, drilling, improvised parts like "The Pearl Solution").

The Kit:

Positives:

+ Rare subject
+ Few parts (quick build)
+ Surface detail

Negatives:

- Low quality
- Poor or wrong instructions
- Lack of professionalism during the development of this kit (Example: The clear part-operation, the propeller)
- Bad fit

I also used some new glues and brushes for this. The new brushes were the "Tamiya High Finish series" and the glue was "Tamiya Limonene Extra Thin"

The glue was ok and smells delicious. The whole point with this glue is to get less odor around my newborn as I live in an apartment. The glue dries alot harder that the regular TET and is harder to sand down. The stick is not as strong but in my experience it does have a welding effect. Final conclusion: I am not totally convinced since Im not entirely pleased with the strength of the bond. I will continue testing before throwing out the TET.

The brushes were excellent. They feel hard and stiff, but at the tip they are soft enough to provide a satisfying finish. I dont use an airbrush and the entire plane was painted using Vallejo model colour and the Tamiya brushes. I will have to say that I did not care for the brushes in the way of cleaning. This is my own fault and has resulted in that they are pretty much ruined paint-wise. Dont know if they are particularly fragile and prone to lose performance, but if you take good care of them, it should not be an issue. Even so, I will keep the brushes as they retain their excellent capabilities as a decal-brush. The firmness really helps in positioning the decals and so on. The brushes are fairly cheap as well if you look them up. Recommended.

Fab job, mate! I don't have a Japanese plane in my collection....I think it's about time I did. It's my Birthday next month, let's see what it brings?

I like the photo where it is facing the box art....it lets you see how spot-on to the box art it looks.
