Coffee, tea or me?

Has anyone tried using coffee and/or tea as a wash?

Thoughts?

Think it would work, the only thing would be to make sure that a coat of lacquer would need to be applied immediately to prevent any mould from springing up.

If people didn't experiment then we wouldn't have half of the techniques that we do. So try it out.

Though I have a mug sitting next to me that has just had coffee in it and there is not a drop left in it but it still stinks of coffee. I think your model might end up stinking of coffee.

I would try it out on a scrap piece of styrene or an old part first to gauge the pong it gives off. No one likes a stinky model!!

You might end up with a strange or mouldy finish after some time as the coffee is likely biodegradeable.

Well tea's out.

The strongest tea I can make is just to translucent to show. Plus it does behave well, there is too much surface tension and it beads on horizontal surfaces and rolls down vertical ones.

I've added a teaspoon and a half of instant coffee to the tea and will see how that goes.

The strongest tea I can make is just to translucent to show. Plus it does behave well, there is too much surface tension and it beads on horizontal surfaces and rolls down vertical ones.

I've added a teaspoon and a half of instant coffee to the tea and will see how that goes.

Put a drop of Dish Soap in with it bud. It will brake the surface tension

Here's the link..ok it'a french forum but the technique is well done and applied i think. He explains that a clear coat after the coffee is important to fix it.
