Okay back with another update on the Little 3 kit build here... :)
This post will see the finish of the detail painting on the Tiger, along with some decaling on all 3 kits, some better than others.. :(

Tiger detail painting first...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Well I tried.... the molded on details are fine and really hard for a bad painter like me!
Decals next and the Tiger's are very scarce having only 2 crosses and 3 numbered areas..
The Jeep and Halftrack however carry alternative varieties but...... and its a BIG BUT... the decals are thick, faded and lack the stickiness to stay put and conform to the surface.... a right battle and final limited decaling... :wall: :
I'll show ya....

Image

all lined up ready for a session....

Image

Image

Look how thick and faded the Halftrack ones are!!

Image

Ready and waiting...

Image

Oh.... and new added seating in the back as mentioned previously..

Image

Tiger time.....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Jeep time, and again the decals are pants.... and I noticed in the pictures that all 3 kits have gained a layer of dust and fluff while waiting for the decaling time to begin...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now the Halftrack, and this is where I decided on limiting the decaling lots...
Look at this decal.... it came off like this... I trimmed the excess thick film but still not sticking even with Micro set and micro sol..

Image

Image

The clear backing was like cello tape only without the stickiness...

Image

So... Doctored another star and tried again...... Gently does it.....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Okay I had had enough by now... you can see the thickness on the side star in the last picture...
I stopped taking pictures and butchered and soaked and left Micro sol on the decals for ages and ages...
After a good few hours I returned, Clear gloss coat in hand and lacquered the decals to keep them intact and in place ready for the weathering over the next few days....
Here are the finished glossed pieces ready for the next phase of the build...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

...and we will end the torture there... lol.... :D
Hoping you guys are still here after watching that shambles of a post.... Decals eh?? That's what I get for relying on old decals from an old kit....
Oh well. next time I will show some progress with those teeny white metal figures I purchased for the miserly sum of £2.99 + postage.. Also I will show the rather naff plastic German infantry pieces I chose to " lay in wait " with the Tiger... Terrible, soft, badly molded yellow plastic figures from Matchbox/Revell... Again, old pieces so I should have guessed!! :wall:

Thanks again for taking a look, as always, take care, stay safe and well..... Model Happy Guys.. :thumb1:
More soon!.....

Great set of updates, Andy :th:

I love the pictures with the matches for scale. Reminds me of those old puzzles: transform the half-track into a KT by moving only 3 matches.

Hey Eryk, thanks Buddy... Not be long now... the diorama is taking a while..

Not be long now Martin mate... The detailing on the cockpit of that Stuka of yours is superb, well done mate... and thanks again for dropping by for a look..

Okay another update, and this time I will show you those White metal figures and what I have done to them.....

Remember, these wont be nothing special, but I like them..
So we start with hacking and chopping and changing some arms, attaching some guns and moving the Captains pointing arm a little...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

I coated one figure in red primer, and primed the rest in white.. Mr red primer will be going "all casual" in the Gun ring on the M5 Halftrack..

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

First coat of Flesh tone, and this time I am going to add a second flesh colour to add tonal variation.....
Never done that before.... must be getting better??

Image

Image

Image

So I practiced a little on Gunner Bob first... Here he is all gloss coated..

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Not the best.. so I try a little better with these final 4 British troops..

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

These are the rather badly moulded Plastic Revell German figures all primed..

Image

Image

Image

Back to the Brits.... Detail painting...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Weathered and flat coated....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

...and I will stop flooding the thread with pictures of teeny Soldiers..
Thanks for sticking till the end of another update...
Maybe have to think about posting up a start on the diorama soon.. :
..as once the Germans are painted up we on the home straight..
Tiger, Halftrack and Jeep are all weathered and flat coated also now so I will post some pics later in the week...
Thanks again guys, all comments welcomed..

Back with a quick picture flood of the finished Vehicles....
I have gone bonkers with the Pastel dust to tone down the Tiger camo and to mucky up the jeep and halftrack a little.. :th:

First up we have a shot each of the glossy vehicles...

Image

Image

Image

Then I apply a wash of Black oil paint for the Allied and a Brown for the Axis, Pin washing the Tiger's panel lines with the black also....Once dry, followed by a good dusting of white, mid grey and black Pastel dust..
After a day of settling I took them and using Vallejo Model Air Matt varnish, again coating well...
I find the Matt Varnish leave a dusty looking dull finish effect anyways so works well for me... :thumb1:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Figures are stood waiting patiently for their transport to arrive.......

Image

.....and they all finished....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

...and with gunny in place manning the .50 Cal....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

..and lastly..

Image

Image

As always, thanks for taking a look guys, much appreciated...
On their own these teeny vehicles and figures don't look much.... but hopefully once added to the country lane, ruined farm building, crossroads ambush Diorama, they will look the part...
More on that bit soon!! :shhh:   :

Thanks John, much appreciated mate.. :thumb1:

I could probably finish the dio now as i am about ready to "mud it up" so to speak..
Every part has been hand made, and is slightly out of scale..... but serves its purpose well..
My problem at the moment is Still the camo/uniforms of the ambushing Germans...
Considering a Sumpfmuster 44 camo on the jackets and helmets but its the trousers and boots i'm unsure of??
...and 3 of my figures have caps and rolled up shirt sleeves?? what colour would their caps and shirts be??
German uniforms changed so much throughout the war its mind boggling...
If anybody can give a definitive answer to the uniform problem i'd be very greatful guys...
Thanks again for taking a look buddy.. :thumb2:

Can't really help you with the uniforms directly. Maybe something on this web page would be useful:

http://www.militarymodelling.com/forums ... p?th=23796

Lots of vallejo colour references for many WWII uniforms.

Thanks Rob, I think for cheap, badly molded bits of white metal they didn't come out too bad.. One day i may get good....
Until then... i'll marvel at your magical figure work... and wish!! :D
..Oh and i named a few so i would take more care painting these little dudes....
Struggling with any decent names for the German soldiers so they may not look so good!!

To be honest, that's the approach I tend to go for as well. So many differing sources as to "exact" colours and uniform styles. I get the feeling that later in the war, some troops would end up wearing whatever they could get their hands on. If it looks right, it probably is right!

Okay chaps, right back at it... The Germans are still sat in primer having nothing but their faces painted so looks like its gonna be the base build time!

My favourite part, and the part I have been putting off posting for a long time....
Been working on and off since day one on this, planning and sketching and hoping to be able to do what I am after doing!!

So....... the plan.....
Quick sketch to show the idea...

Image

Image

So that's the idea.... A 10 inch circle...sporting 3 models at 1/76 scale.... various figures.... trees. hedges and bushes... a field, a road and a derelict farm building completely scratchbuilt and damaged... hiding an MG nest....
Big ideas.... :think: :scratch::

Is it possible??
Well I will have a damn good go!
Farm building first... slightly bigger than 2 1/76 scale figures...

An old piece of 6mm mdf board..

Image

Image

Image

Image

rough drawings.... going to cut them out and see if it will work...

Image

Image

Destroyed corner ready to hide an MG team...

Image

Small high windows on the second floor.....

Image

Image

floorboards courtesy of a sandwich bar coffee stirrer collection...

Image

Image

Split the levels and using matchsticks to give upper level support...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now as this will be derelict, I should build part of a tiled roof to cover it with... Including a hole where the roof has been bombed in or just collapsed in taking the upper floorboards with it to give a ruined finish...
Splitting some stirrers to make a roof framework... Joists etc....

Image

Image

Framework....

Image]

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now before I can "render" the outside walls I need to create the brickwork/stonework that will be exposed where the render has crumbled, broke away, fell off or been knocked off....
Milliput ball rolled and cut and marked then glued to the walls will do....

Image

Image

...and a quick sandbag arc for the MG position... with the leftover milliput.... extra sandbags have also been made... waste not, want not!!

Image

Image

Time to stick the walls on the walls??

Image

Image

Image

Sandbags.....

Image

Image

Now before I finish this post, I will show the adding of the Render to the walls...
Firstly I gave the wood a coat of PVA glue to give a key to adhere too.... Built some shuttering and spread the readymixed filler in the gaps...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Remove the masks..... and repeat on the end walls...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

...Next time we will finish the roof and work on various other parts of the diorama...
Hope you all enjoyed my little Building post.... More soon...
As always, thanks for looking, all comments welcomed..
Stay safe and well guys.... Happy Modelling.. :thumb1:

This is genius stuff Andy.

Love the fact that you are using bits and bobs of stuff like the coffee stirrers.

Just be careful not to get banned from your local Costa Coffee.

It's going to be great, mate.

Okay guys, so while I get a chance, here's another quick update for the building and diorama base...

Last time we was re-rendering an old derelict farm building....

Image

So maybe over time the roof will have fallen in or got bombed in...... I dunno??
Lets create some roof damage..
Big hole time!!

Image

Image

Image

Now unfortunately we don't get teeny tiles at our local DIY supplies so.... Styrene out and make time!!

Image

Draw and score to give the tile rows...

Image

Cut at around the damage site...

Image

Stagger the tile rows.....

Image

Roof placed for effect..

Image

Image

Cut up into rows...... note scored to define individual tiles but not cut singular... I'm daft, but not that daft... how boring would placing the tiles one at a time be??

Image

Image

Overlapped to give tiled impression...

Image

Image

a couple of holes cut in the tile rows to give the missing odd tile look...

Image

While that was setting I sat down to have a spot of lunch... We had a couple of 10" pizza's.... these came on cardboard circles...... Hmmm......

...and guess what I did with the 2 cardboard discs??

Image

Yep turned them face to face and glued them together..... forming the basis of my diorama base, and I quickly sketched out the idea on the bottom of one....

Next using some more cardboard, I made a raised road area and crushed the sides to give form to my idea of a road and ditch/hedgerow plan...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

We cannot leave it like this so my usual method of covering in torn newspaper and PVA/water mix ensued...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

...and that needs to dry fully before I start and landscape and lay roads etc.....

Hopefully I have entertained for another post..... This is starting to take shape now.... and in real time is looking real cool....
...and still all in 1/76 scale!! :wtf:
Thanks guys for following through another picture filled post, all comments and questions welcome...
As always, take care, stay safe and well my friends.... Happy Modelling.. :thumb1:

Back with another quick instalment as we STILL have no Baby coming anytime soon....
Booked in to be induced Monday if no baby over the weekend!!

So where was we??
Oh yeah, building some groundwork for the hedgerow and a quick layout check.... :thumb1:

First up. white glue and 24 hour soaked torn paper.....when drained and kneaded with the PVA makes a grey pulp that sets rock hard after leaving for a few days....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

So as you can see, I have bordered the road side and given some raised areas to the rear and front of where the building will sit...
Here look....

Image

Image

Image

While the Paper Pulp dries thoroughly, I am going to make some rubble piles, some walls and brickwork and have a quick test of road surface effects and finishes....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Going to texture the road with a sponge glue applicator, bits of dried filler rubble and some fine Aqua sand for fish tanks..

Image

But again, the pulp isn't dry so a quick red primer on the roof tiles...

Image

Image

...and as its getting late, I will end this quick update for now.. :D
Hope some of you enjoyed this post, all questions and comments welcome....
As always, take care guys.... Stay safe and well and I will get back to the thread soon... :thumb1:

Once the building is secured onto the base, I guess that will make it a Pizza Hut! (please note other pizzeria dinning establishments are available!).

Fantastic work as always mate and looking to forward to seeing your progress, as and when you can squeeze it in of course. Hope everyone is doing well, especially mum and baby!! :th:

Thanks Alex, much appreciated buddy.. Mummy and Baby doing fine, the other children are smitten and for once, being good! lol...
As far as a PizzaHut... i think when i last drove down France that way it was now one of those seedy Tabac shops where all the Dodgy Beer and fag sellers frequent... Transit vans, coming and going, full to the brim with cheap smokes... lol... :wtf:  :shifty:
Thanks again mate.. :thumb1:

Thanks Eryk, i have many children now....This baby was a total surprise and an accident whilst using contraception... but she is a very nice and pleasant surprise, and all fit and well so i am very happy for this gift from God! :thumb2:
I will grab a look at your builds later today... but for now..... just for you....
I will sneak a couple more pictures in of some more Build work on this diorama....
Thanks again .... :thumb1:

......So roof is all red primer and i think it will stay this colour...

Image

I will start to check positioning and size of debris around the exposed stonework for later in the build....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

I have an internal wall to build.... an MG placement to plan and various other ideas rolling around my brain....

Image

Upper floor and dividing wall in place....

Image

Image

Image

Smashed and all going to be debris...

Image

So its out with the whitewash and a couple of coats added....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

A back wall is constructed later in the build but for now it was planned to be open.... I changed my mind and built another "Thin" broken back wall..... but that'll be in another update... :thumb1:

For now....The Paper-mache hedgerow bottoms and banking areas are finally dry.... Time to create a rough road surface..
As mentioned i am using pre-mixed tile grout, Aqua sand/fine sand and a little broken crumbs from the rubble filler work...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Once dry i too give this a grey primer to help fix and give uniform base colour to everything...

Image

Looks much better now!!

Image

Image

Image

Now before i wrap up i am going to add some lighter colour to the road area, then give it an oil wash to stain it....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Okay guys... Next time i will paint up the stonework on the building... add some washes to both building and road, then plan the next exciting part of my scratchbuilt 1/76 diorama...
Thanks for taking a look, questions and comments welcomed...
As always, take care, stay safe and well and Happy Modelling... :thumb1:

Okay so I have grabbed an hour to try and progress my little diorama....
Little.... hahaha.... only in scale... 3 vehicles, 7 axis figures, 8 allied figures, 1 road, 1 derelict barn/building.... a couple of trees, some hedgerow and a surprise ambush unfolding... In 1/35 this would be EPIC!! :eeek:

...but for now, back to the small stuff...
We left off with a pale grey road colour...

Image

Lets paint the Brick/stonework showing through the damaged and aged render...
Burnt Umber Artists Acrylics...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

I have used the same Paint on the papier-mâché mounds to give a base colour to the mud/bush work...
...and washed the road with some black oil paint and white spirit..

Image

Image

Image

Image

...and the whitewashed building gets a coat of it too!!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now I will be using my usual tree roots for trees and a hedgerow product for hedging. the grass mat from a hanging basket for grasses and various lichen, scatter and static grasses for everything else..
The trees will need some anchor points and I am going to cut some 6mm MDF for a circle base for the Pizza card discs to glue too...
2 nails are used for the anchor pins..

Image

Image

Image

Next time I will dry fit the trees and make a start on sorting the foliage etc... out..
Until then, thanks for looking in...
All comments and questions welcome....
