1/48 High Planes "Precious Metal" P-51A

Post by MakingModelsAgain »

This b*****d fought me every step of the way right up to its photo shoot when the port wheel decided to fall off and in the process of re-attaching it, the wheel covers came off too! The base kit is an ICM Mustang and the fuselage was warped from the get-go, so wings are at an odd angle. This meant most of, if not everything that fitted to it was off kilter or just wouldn't, such as the IM canopy, forcing me to get a vacform. The result of this was that I was able to show it open (because I had to!!!) Also had to get a set of Brassin wheels to replace the shapeless ICM blobs, a set of Quickboost resin flared exhaust stubs as the kit ones were cylindrical.

Anyhoooo... it's painted with Alclads and then finished with Mr Metal Color to give it some surface variation, texture and sheen.

This was built for SAM Magazine and will (hopefully) be published in a future issue. Maybe.
