Tamiya 1/35 U.S. M113A2 A.P.C.

Hi all!

I wanted a nice quick build to help get me mojo back and I decided on this older Tamiya kit that I got from a ebay haul a while back. Being a Tamiya kit it went fast and easy. Thought I'd show you guys step one of the tri-tone camo. I have yet to do the sides obviously as I need to dry fit the side skirt things on and make sure the camo stays mostly uniform. Completely free hand using Tamiya paints. Heavily thinned I might add (about 2:1 thinner to paint mix) which is why I'm going to have to go back and fill in some of the color.

Not sure how I feel about it so far honestly. From one angle I like it and from another angle I hate it lol Either way really enjoying it despite it taking forever.

More progress on the tri-tone camo. All I have to say is why did I choose to do this when I could have went with nice and simple desert tan...

So the next color up was brown. Let me just say free handing is a pain in the rump. Well, it is when you want solid edges. Much like before there are areas which I think look really good and then there are areas that look like pure shite! Notably the sides. For some reason they're giving me the most issues. Everything seems to blob on the sides so I'm going to have to go back with both black and green and make it look not like shite.

Need to add some green to the area shown.


This is probably where the camo is worst. Lots of touch up needed.






One thing I've figured out is that without some sort of mask a hard line camo isn't going to be feasible. Also what I'd give for an airbrush that limits how far you can pull the needle back. I've got one on the way for my birthday but it's coming from Japan...

Loving the work so far (and totally un-shite-y imo!) I was debating on doing something similar with the same kit I've had collecting dust on the shelf for some time now...possibly for the 'Nam GB coming up but with more figures than just the ARVN figs provided. Keep up the good work! Cheers

Hey everybody! After a week of being ill I finally got back to work. Just in time for decals... yay.











Not perfect but I'm happy with it. Everything was freehand using Tamiya paints. Now what's left is another another clear coat and then some dust effects.

Well I'm calling this build finished! Gave it a matte cote and attempted to give it a dusty look with some pigment. Kind of worked.
