And now, my VERRY VERRRRY LATE entry to this GB, My Revell B-17G
WARNING!!!! HISTORY LESSON INBOUND!!!! WARNING!!!!
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is a four-engine heavy bomber aircraft developed in the 1930s for the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC). Competing against Douglas and Martin for a contract to build 200 bombers, the Boeing entry outperformed both competitors and more than met the Air Corps' expectations. Although Boeing lost the contract because the prototype crashed, the Air Corps was so impressed with Boeing's design that they ordered 13 more B-17s for further evaluation. From its introduction in 1938, the B-17 Flying Fortress evolved through numerous design advances.
The B-17 was primarily employed by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) in the daylight precision strategic bombing campaign of World War II against German industrial and military targets. The United States Eighth Air Force, based at many airfields in southern England, and the Fifteenth Air Force, based in Italy, complemented the RAF Bomber Command's nighttime area bombing in the Combined Bomber Offensive to help secure air superiority over the cities, factories and battlefields of Western Europe in preparation for the invasion of France in 1944.[4] The B-17 also participated to a lesser extent in the War in the Pacific, early in World War II, where it conducted raids against Japanese shipping and airfields.
From its pre-war inception, the USAAC (later USAAF) touted the aircraft as a strategic weapon; it was a potent, high-flying, long-range bomber that was able to defend itself, and to return home despite extensive battle damage. It quickly took on mythic proportions,[5][6] and widely circulated stories and photos of notable numbers and examples of B-17s surviving battle damage increased its iconic status.[7] With a service ceiling greater than any of its Allied contemporaries, the B-17 established itself as an effective weapons system, dropping more bombs than any other U.S. aircraft in World War II. Of the 1.5 million metric tons of bombs dropped on Germany and its occupied territories by U.S. aircraft, 640,000 tons were dropped from B-17s.[8]
As of September 2011, 13 aircraft remain airworthy, with dozens more in storage or on static display.
The Kit
This is a Revell ProModeller B-17 and it is said to have full interior detail including cockpit and bomb bay. Unfortunately, like most other revell kits, they rip you off by not including figures, so you have to buy them seperately.

Hehe, I was able to make a pilot figure by cutting up some extra figures from an airfix airfield kit!

Change of plans, I may be making the little miss mischief version since my camo green has been contaminated and takes lots of work to get it to look right , so i might use my enamel silver and struggle on the behind with the dark green.

Is this the same kit as Revell Germany released a few years ago? This whole Revell/Monogram and Revell Germany thing confuses me at points

I belive this is just a regular b-17 by revell. it is 2010 made and seems just like scalemodelling1105's normal b-17

Oh, it seems I have failed to tell all of you what paints I am using for this build. The interior is Humbrol enamel 86 and the details are Humbrol acrylic 33 black and acrylic 64 grey. For the figures I used 33 for the jackets 61 for the skin, 24 for the pants and 33 for shoes and hats. There also seems to be a gap when I put the other fuselage half on so I will most likely tear out the bomb bay which is not visible. I will also have more pictures up soon. Hope you all enjoy.

The turret is painted with Humbrol 64 Acrylic. The interior walls are Humbrol 78 Enamel. The fuselage guns are Humbrol 33 Acrylic, while the turret's guns are Humbrol 56 Acrylic. The figures are extras from my first kit, an airfix airfield diorama set.

I apologize for the blurred photos and the messy thread. I am still getting my act together.

Sealing up that fuselage was a mess. I had to use tons of filler and eventually I just used some humbrol glue which is like filler but dries smooth. I have also started on the wings for this B-17G.

I seem to have made a major OOPs

..... I have lost the clear part that goes over the top turret behind the cockpit. If you have used it, you know that revell spares take forever

.... If anybody has a spare one or is willing to give up theirs and get a spare from revell. Please contact me, I hate to ask for favors however im in a squeeze..

Oh no man that sucks, I wish i could help you out. You should check to see if there are any after market companies that do the clear parts as you may get them quicker than waiting for revell to send a replacement.

oooh. and the final blow may have been dealt today..... While trainsporting the b-17 in 3 pieces, it seems all of my little details and figures have broken off. Im pretty sure that this is it. No finishing this in time.

And this is it.... I'm away from my model and it is not yet done. There is no chance of finishing it now unfortunately. Well.... it was a good try and I'm sure that I will finish the next one.... Sorry for such a wait and for having such a gap in the progress photos. Since I ran out of time, i got discouraged and got tired of looking at it. Well here it is. So far. It is actually in 3 major pieces because that is easier to work with on my small workbench.
