Tamiya 1:35 M151A2 Ford Mutt 1/4 Ton Truck

Ladies and Gentlemen I offer you my entry into the Vietnam GB, namely the M151A2 Ford Mutt.



Now, compared to some of the stuff being built for the GB it's pretty small beer, especially to you AFV guys. What this is though is my very first vehicle so be gentle...







Easy to follow Tamiya de-structions. I must apologise for the quality of these pics, low light issue...





Beautifully detailed plastic, as you would except. It's actually a rather nice buff colour not pink..







There is a small decal sheet and windscreen but it appears I've mislaid it
I am hoping to set the kit on a diorama or most proberly a vignette....again something I know nothing about. God help me...

Eyed this kit up a few times to buy... Its even still in my Ebay Watching list along with the Masterbox "Charlie on the left!" figure set as i was toying with entering this GB when it started but never got round to it!
Will watch and learn as you knock it into shape..

Right, lets get to work!



Front springs going on..



Gearbox, propshaft, exhaust...



Front diff thingy...





You'll notice that every now and then I had use a bit of filler, no biggy. A lovely fit though, typical Tamiya...



Underneath just about done..



Radiator and front lights. Now there is a aftermarket engine for this kit (can't remember the maker sorry), it certainly would add massively to an already lovely little kit..



Er.. Seats, of which I'll paint up separately..



Bonnet and windscreen, you can see that the aftermarket engine would really set the kit off..



On to the wheels now, well hubs to be specific. I'm going to drill out the little holes in the hubs, hopefully should look a bit more like it...



Yeah, not bad. Notice the tyre manufacturer name on the sidewall... Nice..



Dry fitting the wheels, looking like something now...





Rear seat in or out? Out it says in the instructions. Who am I to argue..





Building wise thats about it, well 80% anyway. Went together really well, a bit basic you could say, there is a bit of filling here and there. Defiantly benefit from an engine and maybe a PE set? Anyway time for a bit of priming..



You might able to matey with a cocktail stick up his bum, I thought I'd spare you the close-up.

That's the one Mikey! It's all about costings mate, I run lean, you know on a tight budget
I do find that this can be an expensive hobby if your not careful.. Well, that's what she tells me. Besides she's all buttoned up.

Excellent idea Mark (our little secret ).

I haven't had chance to do anything to the Mutt for ages, although what I did do last was prime up. What I didn't do though was take any pic's . For the record I used the AK black primer, first time for me. I offer my apologies

I've got paint on the Mutt!! Mr Hobby Aquaous H78 olive drab is the culprit here...



I'm not entirely accurate but I'm not worrying if your not..

I managed to mask off wheels with some white tac and spray the tyres with Mr Hobby H77 tyre (tire) black...



I've used Alclad 2 Aqua Gloss, on Paul's recommend, for a clear coat... Top stuff..



It was getting dark by this time..







Decals next, there's not many, then it's weathering!!!!

It's been ages since I last updated what with these dark evenings, the light in my work area is pretty poor so I'm having to wait until the weekends so I can see what I'm doing.
Anyway I've managed to do a bit. Not many decals here, but i still don't like doing them. Notice I've got a mask on the windscreen, we'll see how that's works out..



Trying my hand with pigments for the first time, Mig Vietnam earth is the stuff I'm using. I've just dipped an old brush in the pot and brushed in on, then applied thinner with same brush. Is that right? Seems ok to me..

These pigments are good fun..





After a bit of clean up with that old brush soaked in some thinner, I need to give the tyres a dark grey dry-brush methinks..



He's (h)armless. I'm not very good at figures, never really had to do them to be honest. It's something though I'd like to get ok at.



That'll do for now, my tea's nearly ready. I've got to think about a little base to mount her on, my mate owns a joinery shop.... Hmm I wonder...

I've managed to get a base, a lump of pine with a turned edge. Never done this stuff before, so I'll start with a bit of a seal with PVA watered down with er...water.



Edges masked off and ready for some air drying clay stuff...



Don't tell her I used the rolling pin



A couple of test fittings..





After drying for a couple of hours...



I'll sort out the cracks later, but at lest I've made some progress.

Ok back with it.
After a prime, I had a go with some Perfect Plastic Putty thinning with water...



Looks like this..



Some green paint then sprayed on. Had to use this as I've got no grass (honestly officer).



Clear cote some aquarium plants just to see if they'd be ok.



I'll use dry brushing and pigments for the rest, but now I'm poorly and had enough. See you soon.....
