Tamiya Otto Carius Panzerjäger Jagdtiger

So Iwe decided to finnish this kit for the GB, This is a special edition with the commander Otto Carius kit #35307-5400. I will post more pictures, this is a dry mock up of the sub assemblies. As for the kit its a very nice kit for a Tamiya, it will build up to a nice model, not fully to my liking but defenetly decent. The kit itself is a "rare" kit and goes for around 80 dollars US or 75 euros this is not what I payed but I belive it goes around at least the same price as any dragon kit if you get it "cheap". Now what do you get for the extra cash. You get some of the usual out of scale Tamiya figures(horrible), one thats somewhat looks like otto I will post pictures of the others so you can judge yourselfs. You get some extra Tamya decals of a Y X Z wich you culd paint on yourself. You get the old motorcycle avalable as a seperate kit, also decent, crude in some details. And you get PE grills. So all in all this is a 30euro kit that you pay35 euro for PE grillset, and seperate tracklinks. Its not really what you culd call goodies. Anyway on with it.

I will add some figures for a fall/winter diorama. I had 2 sets of miniart winter panzer riders Iwe been converting on the hangouts, I built 5 out of the box for the tank, and converted the others into soldiers. Some sanding sculpting and filling is still required in this picture. Im also adding more gear and weapons. I like the thickness of theese figures, In scale they are wearing real winter gear. They will be painted up in various camo patterns.

So lets start with a picture of the original figures, they are too thin and flat chested not detailed enough, very off in scale as with all Tamiya figures. Scratbox next. This is just my personal opinion, as a young modeler or someone that needs practice layering or eye painting the are good enough so always save them.


The Mini art figures in modding process, heads,arms,and lex mixed up. They all got helmets and I added the hood up and a bandage.
Also the JT got primed and pre shaded, I normally dont do this, this is my first pre shaded tank but Im practicing my AB skills on preshading, so it wont hurt.


The figures have been primed and got a dash with the AB of basic skintone, all exept the frankenstein squad.

So I layed down the main colour, I think it turned out ok, the shading seel to have worked. This is the last and lightest vertion of Dunkel gelb, from M.I.G Im moving on to detail painting and chipping.

Note how the light affects the colour even in this scale, we got white pink and beige and yellow.

Take the chip of your shulder . The process has begun, I do this with a really thin brush for best results, I dont really like spunges there is not enough control using a spunge. I use any primer red, this time Valejo black red, you culd also use hull red or primer red. I will also add metal in places. I want to depict, a last batch of dunkel gelb mixed with a bit of white, and just a bad quick thin paintjob on a primed only factory rushed JT. Mostly cause I think it looks nice.

Chipping is done did a Pinwash and a light wash of brown colour, all over, I got some more washes and streaks then the tracks and mud, and rust/sot on the exaust and some other weathering. I have not done much with the figures, some base paint here and there.

Here is some more progress, Dot filter, and rust streaks and some more detail painting, pigments on the exaust etc, some of the figures are also coming alive, Im experementing a little with the faces. The JT will get the tracks done during the week, and Ill be working on the figures and acessories. The figures all have reversable parka, its going to be oakleaf fall, sump munster and grey, and white side out.

So Iwe been working on the figures some, and the JT is basically done Itsgoing to wait to be integrated into a diorama base and , fitted with details and extras some twigs and stuff. I also brought a swimmwagen off the Shelf of doom, gave it a spray and going to fill it up with extras. There you go, hope you guys enjoy it.

So Iwe been away a bit and busy, but the Swimvagen ahs been worked on today, I did some repaints on some of the crew I wasnt happy going from light to dark on the figures so I reversed the painting from dark to loght, Im still experementing on how to do it, Im trying to get better at it. Anyway the schwimmvagen got stuffed today and is nearly finnished, need to get working on the figures again so I can start a diorama. Thanx for your comments, and for following this build.

I used tissue paper and thread to make makshift tarp covers for the Panzershrek and inner linings of the box, also for the camo tarp. I like this method it gives a scale like easy to shape tarp, and to me they work well and you can paint them when they are wet to get a worn look, and just give them a wash. I always put undiluted white glue under them. Sometimes I put it on dry and wet it with water/whiteglue mix, and work it around a bit with a brush, and a forceps I paint it with very diluted acrylics. The benefit of using paper is that you get very realistic fuel stains if you want to mak things such as oil or grease rags.

So Iwe been busy and I wanted to make a full video series on how to make a diorama base for my youtubechannel , this didnt happen, and this one was sort of simple so Ill do that with some other project, anyway. Most of the base was done on todays hangout. I still got 4 figures that I have repainted, I was doing them in plain white but im not really happy with them, so ill respray them white again, the other figures are on the dio, Im also adding some additional stuff here and there, and some more snow and water maby.
Dirt water and white glue mixed into a turd.



The snow Im using is deactivated baking soda, Wet your baking soda up and let it dry, to avoid bubbles, then just scrape it up mash it and put it in a jar.
