Post by elscorpio »

I´ve made this FW190-D9 JV44-Tamiya 1/72 for a Luftwaffe GB , but i also wanted to show it here for your opinion...

It was a pleasure to build , its my second airbrush model, and the diference is huge.

Thank you for the kind words! I bet its going to turn out good. Just stay calm and don t be affraid of the mottled camouflage...work in layers, if something not good, just paint another layer, and do again...

By the way ... does anyone knows where to find "good" 1/72 figures ? I love this scale (i only do 1/72, "space" reasons, and personnel taste!) , but not to many figures and stuff to work in this scale...i ve only found airfix, not that bad, but if i could find some resin stuff, it should be better...

Looks great mate! I love the Dora series Fw's, I think they are just so appealing! I can't help you with resin figures but you might be better off taking a trip down to Ye Olde Ebay  . Amazing job and an amazing base!

Love that Camo but what's the red belly all about? Really good job with the paint work. :cheers2:

I believe it was to identify JV44's airfield defense squadrons from allied aircraft out to get the 262's when they were landing. Similar in a way to the Invasion stripes were applied to Allied Aircraft around D-Day due to a fear of friendly fire.

Correct, acording to wiki "The Platzschutzstaffel flew the long-nosed 'Dora', Fw-190 D-9, or Fw-190 D-11 variant of the well-known Fw 190. These aircraft were painted bright red on their wings' undersurfaces with contrasting white stripes so that anti-aircraft batteries could distinguish them from Allied piston-engined aircraft, leading to their humorous postwar nickname of the Papagei Staffel (Parrot squadron)"

To bad they didnt paint more planes with the red schemes...JV 44 also use the Me 262, it would be beautifull with the red belly !

Nice model and presentation, João. Image

I believe Preiser produce various sets of 1/72 figures in hard styrene (not the soft Airfix stuff), and Revell used to have a box of Luftwaffe personnel in its range. For pilots, PJ Productions produce some really nice resin figures.

Thanks for the tip. I looked over the Preiser figures, and they look really nice, and some options (RAF, VVS, Luftwaffe). PJ figures look very good also.

Thanks for the help, mate!
