Eduard 1/48th Mirage IIICJ Profipack

A nice simple kit



Work starts with the cockpit. A couple of hours of work gets you this.

Today's work on the Mirage

Started with the rear of the Atar. Painted with various shades of Alclad





Then started to close up the fuselage. Evidence that the Molds are starting to get a bit tired - there's a bit of flash on everything, and the fuselage has quite significant bending to them



Using a combination of clamps and tape, with CA as well as normal cement managed to get it wrestled into line, though not without losing the ejector seat handle. No worries they give 2 variants, so i'll put the other one on in due course.





Sprayed the intakes white, and fitted the wing - once again this required 'persuasion' and some CA





Then on with the Filler - it looks worse than it is, it's mainly depressions along the joints, and should sand back nicely. I like the P40 filler for this kind of thing, as it sands back well, and doesn't damage the surrounding plastic.

Today mainly a process of sanding and rescribing





Put the flaperons on



Then masking off the canopies - The main canopy section is too wide to fit closed, hence the masking tape. Won't be a problem with the canopy open, but annoying.

Today's work - initially lots of primer, fill, primer action to get the surface smooth. Using Alclad White primer, as It will help fade the cammo paint.

After the primer and a rubdown




Then sprayed the Gear bays with Alclad Aluminium, along with the Gear and the fuel tanks.



Masked off with blu-tak, then preshading - light with heavily thinned XF-1 matt black

Superb work so far! I believe this is the Kinetic kit, that is probably why you have so many fitting problems.

No it's an Eduard original - it's just the molds are getting quite old. But even the earlier ones are 'interesting' to build but not as bad.

Today's work - only an hour but got a lot done ( Dragon Age: Inquisition calls me )

Using these new paints from Ammo



Technically the green is the wrong shade for the early mirages (too light), but i'll see what it looks like on as it did fade quite quickly

Sprayed the Ammo paint at 18PSI using my Iwata with 0.3 mm needle, and a drop or two of Ammo thinner ( just to help limit the tip drying )

So starts with the grey undersides



Then the middle stone



The green



And finally the Tan



Then a coat of Klear over the top to seal it all and get a glossy surface for decals



Not a bad way to spend an hour, and I like the paints, they seem to have a nice fade to them.

Great Build here ! Think that the decals are not the pretiest ones , but that's not your fault , I can imagine the lot of work that you had placing them in the kit ...

Think that when you finish it and with a final flat coat on it , will be a very nice looking bird !

Frustrated with it for a couple of reasons -

I picked it as a simple kit ( having built a couple of them before ), and to try the Ammo paints.

However this latest re-issue seems to have a number of issues ( bendy fuselage, no nose weight and no mention of it in the instructions though previous issues had a nose weight ). This is my frustration, as having built it before with an earlier issue, and a number of the hobbyboss mirages and still having a nice original Royal Class boxing of it I know Eduard can do this kit properly.

It may be that this was just a 'friday afternoon' kit, but it's ended up being way more work than I wanted.

What is the P40 filler you mention? I've never heard of it

P40 is polyurethane car filler - comes in a tube that you mix with hardener, sands back nicely and sets quite quickly.

Turned out a very good looking Mirage mate!
You litterally bent it into shape...
I also like this aircraft, It has a fantastic service record.
Nice work on the camo and overall a great build.
How was the mig paints to work with btw?
