Serrecko: Hello from Winchester, VA - USA

Post by Serrecko »

Hello from Winchester, VA in the good ole USA.

I'm 50 years old, just returned to building model aircraft after being away from the hobby since around 1981-82. That was back in my high school days. So, I have been out of the hobby for 32-33 years.

I came back to the hobby to help myself recover from cancer. I'm in the IT world and for the past 4 months of this cancer treatment and recovery I have noticed I feel slow, and stupid. Being someone that could hold 4 conversations at the same time, without missing a beat, I knew I needed to do something to wake up my mind, and get things moving again.

I'm building three models at the same time, and I have been reading 2 books at the same time. I have regained a part of what I think I have been missing. The mental challenge do to more than wonder why I am still in pain from the cancer and just how many painkillers makes one addicted.

Anyway, I have been looking at some of the pictures in the gallery here and I realize I was never as good as what I am seeing, and whatever I do going forward will not be as good as my best efforts from 33 years ago. But no matter what, I am having fun building models again and driving the wife a little crazy with model boxes piling up all over the place.

I swear, people now days have it easy. Back in the day we actually had to drive around from Hobby Shop to Hobby Shop looking for paint, supplies, models and everything else. Now, you login to a web site, order it at it arrives at your front door in a few days. Thankfully we have a few Hobby Shop sorta places around here and I have thrown lots of money their way. Hopefully I will continue to build models as I get back to work and back to my normal life. My wife will never visit the basement again.

Modelling, it's not just for kids and crazy people. Right?

Hi Mike, welcome to I.S.M :welcome:

You are doing better than me, if I have more than two models on the go at once I get a bit stressed out :eeek:

Welcome to ISM Mike :)

You've had quite a journey mate! Don't worry what your model looks like just so long as you enjoyed building it, that's all that matters :th:
