F-105 G Thunderchief 1/48 Hobbyboss

Hello, everybody! I will briefly show you some of the steps took while building my 1:48th scale F-105 G from HobbyBoss. Landing gear bays and ejection seat are from Aires, while surface treatment was done using Vallejo model color acrylics, mixed to match the FS paints of the real aircraft, and sealed using Vallejo clear gloss varnish.

Fantastic work! The Thud (Thunderthud - flies like thunder, lands with a thud) is a favorite of mine, just so mean looking!

How did you like the kit? Any issues with it?

The legs and wheels of the HobbyBoss Thunderchiefs are lousy and should be replaced with the ones found in the Monogram F-105's (use resin copies if possible). The gear bays from Aires are excellent. Be careful with the way the fuselage halves come together and the way the wings line up and also the angle of the gear legs. Panel lines and rivet details are engraved too deep and do require some serious sanding. The ventral fin is way off, needs to be replaced.

Over the years there were many speculations over the shape of the radome, many claiming that they are too pointy. If you study actual pictures you will see that it is not the case. In my opinion Monogram, working with factory plans, has not made mistakes, and HobbyBoss has faithfully copied the outline of the Monogram kit.

That is some stunning work, I'm blown away. Can you share some of your cockpit work and tips? Were the instruments hand painted or colour photo-etch? Love the work on the instrument cowling. Hell, I love everything. No where's that damn genuflect smilie?

The cockpit tub itself is made from sheet styrene, with the kit supplied decals used on the side consoles, while the seats are from Aires

Wow fantastic build, really like it!

Was on a seminar with an old colonel that flew the Thud in Vietnam.
Very interesting, according to him the pilots loved it since it was very reliable and could take punishment and survive.
He told some hair raising stories about missions over (besides) Thud Ridge...
Also what is was like to be chased by "Telephone poles" (SAMs).
