AFV Club 1/35 British Scimitar

Started this the other night as i wanted something to build in the hangouts, nice little kit let down with poor instructions and horrible rubber tracks which i'll replace with friul metal tracks.

Not much of a build log as i just wanted quick build, i'm going to be doing it in the white UN colours.

Looks like quite a nice kit. Lovely turned barrel, Fruil tracks will be a great enhancement. Look forward to seeing this progress!

Always loved the Scimitar/Scorpion family, well since I made up the Airfix 1/76 when I was a kid.

Very impressive kit mate, but why did AFV Club stick the ejector pins in the bottom of the hatches? They've given you a lot of unnecessary work.

No idea, didnt see them, until i posted the pics either, will take car of them, either filling them or shutting the hatches

What was wrong with instructions, I thought AFV were okay in that department?
This a lovely build on your part of a cracking little Recon Vehicle.
Used to love seeing these beauties zipping around the BAOR exercise grounds (when the Driver could engage 1st that is ).

Nice kit mate, look good in the white to. We had these in the regiment and was in Bosnia in the white colour.

So more progress on this

Its been primered using the new badger primers, which are superb.



It was then base coated using neat tamiya xf2 white and for the final coat it was thinned with Ultimate thinner 50/50 to even out the paint.



Got the friul tracks assembled and burnished using fluid worked well and i think they will just need a little Ultimate wash



This is the crew ill be adding but they will be in dpm colours


Tonight i got it decaled, the detail parts painted, tools, exhaust light etc, plus the gun barrel alclad gunmetaled, and the exhaust pe shroud rolled and painted too. I also added wire to the coms reel on the rear of the vehicle.



The UN decal for the top storage bin fell apart as i took it out the water so i need to source another.


This is the vehicle I'm trying to kind of copy, ill be adding the UN flag to the vehicle and be weathering it in a similar way

Awesome job on a lovely subject.
Could the Driver be stood to attention anymore he must have got a riffing for that.
Super vehicles when gear was selected properly and did not nose dive into ground.

So its now been chipped and given a grey oil wash, starting to look dirty already

The colour for this is spot on Paul. The chipping is perfect, looks really good up close. Looking forward to seeing the crew added to it.

So a jump ahead to this thing finished. it was given a light grey filer then oil dot filtered and Ultimate washes airbrushed on to give the effect i was looking for. The figures were painted using various tones of vallejo model colour and the dpm (thanks to gav for help) looks ok.

The friul tracks are a massive improvement over the crappy kit vinyl ones and once burnished and Ultimate washed look great.

I added the styrene rod antennas and scratch build the gun barrel sleeve out of tissue paper and watered down pva glue.
