Hello from Denmark - And questions :)

Post by Jubb »

Hey Guys.

After a loooooong break (8 years or so) i have decided to return to modelling. When i was younger i really liked doing the 1/350 scale battleships.
So why not return in style with the 1/200 Trumpeter battleships ?
I have bought Arizona and Bismarck which i am hoping to start on during the Christmas season :) (and HMS Hood if it gets released)

For the first time however, i have bought Vallejo Model Color acrylics. I have no experience with acrylics whatsoever (i used to only play around with Humbrol enamels). I hope that it(acrylics) is good for brushing as that is what i will be using. How does the mixing paint part actually Work ? What should i actually mix the paint with ? Is there any specific liqued which is most usefull for brushing ?

And finally, how do you Guys make sure that the exact mix of paint you created for something, can be recreated should you require more ?

Merry Christmas ! :cheers2:

Vallejo Model Color acrylics are meant to be very good for brush painting, i only have one bottle but it worked at treat when i used it . i just thinned it with water but vallejo make their own thinner which you should be able to get where you got the paint.
the dropper top on the vallejo bottles make it easier to recreate a mix by counting the drops of each component

:welcome: I'd recommend getting Ultimate Paint thinner as it's apparently compatible with almost all paints! So if you decide to go back to Humbrol or use enamels as well as the Vallejo acrylics you wont have to go out and buy more paint specific Thinners. ( It says AB Thinner but It's the same thing as paint thinners)
I'll add a paint mixing ratio guide to this reply :thumb1:

Welcome to ism buddy! Be aware that Ultimate thinner is awesome, but it's not for enamels (as hinted at in an earlier post)

Now I never noticed that before  My bad rubegoldberg sorry mate.

The Humbrol is the Acrylic Humbrol paints then? Which I've never tried, I have a few Humbrol enamel for weathering!

Anyway well worth the purchase i've just bought some more of the Thinner & Cleaner :thumb1:

rubegoldberg wrote:^that wasn't me, but yes...Ultimate thinners is alcohol based and not for enamels. acrylics only. mineral spirits for enamels.
lol I need to get some "specsavers" me thinks!

Mineral spirits being white spirit?
I mainly have Tamiya and Vallejo any way, but I do have 30 or so Humbrol enamels I picked up to try out some different weathering techniques I read about.
