Seeing the destruction of dak

Post by gustavlekstal »

Hi this is what I present for my first completed sig.

The basuc idea for the diorama is from a picture, where a späwagen drives between wrecks.
Image

If anyone is interested in the 5 books I have in pdf format, give me a pm. The books are about the light and heavy späwagens.

Goal for this späwagen was to learn more about hairspray chipping
Conclution: got the hang of it at the end. Primer red and panzergrey looks terrible. Will not do that again. Maby the dak colors or dark yellow will work better with primer red. Then I overdid the weathering because I wanted to hide the primer red. Went pete tong wrong!!!Its my 7th finished build so I will take alot of lessons from this one.

Goal for diorama was to learn how to build a diorama since its my second.
Great fun! Gonna keep that up. Gonna add balsawood on the sides. I dont have time to do that this year. So if you planning a diorama, do it first since its alot of extra work to do it last! :bash:

Goals for figures was to try to work more with shadows and highlights.
My third and fourth figures show that Im working on the right direction. Was sometimes a bit boring and lost my mojo quite often with them. Ive mixed dak uniform colors and given one of the figures captured british pants. The eyes are to white. Gonna make em more pinkish next time, to make em blend in with the face more. Most happy with googles on the figure that has them on his head. Painted glossblack, thinned blue paint, layers of thinned gloss. Dumped most of the paint in a tissue before painting.

Alright here is my "der späwagen" ;)

I'll give you some honest feedback. I think for the model subject the weathering isn't quite right, its a bit heavy.

However, the weathering you have done is fantastic! If you had done this as a burnt out vehicle then this would be spot on (and that is where I feel this isn't quite right, in that the weathering looks like a burnt out vehicle).

But please take this as intended in that its just my opinion. Its your model in the end, and as you said only your 7th. And the model itself, for your 7th is fantastic. Its very well painted and weathered, and the diorama is cracking! So all in all a very very good model mate, be proud of it.

Thanks for the honest words. :th: I agree completely. I have to scale back the amount of weathering and concentrate on highlighting few eye candy spots. Or just do burnt out afvs... :ooops: happy with the diorama but I should have done better with the späwagen.

Holy crow!
I love what you've learned with this piece Gustav.
You certainly nailed the diorama. It's wonderful! The texture, scenic value, life content, and placement is spot on. The barrel and the vegetation is what makes it all work.
The PSW is a bit dark but you know what happened there. The figures are really well done, they could use a touch of matte coat on them though to take off the glossiness.

In the end it's all about what we learn and you certainly succeeded in that.
So in my eyes this is a win.

Thank you all!: :cheers2: Coen Im gonna try with matt varnish. I get the diffrent stages somewhat right but the I cover it all with the next stage. And since I was disappointed with the desert späwagen, I jumped back into saddle with this. Got a bit of a desert fever right now :ooops:
