Hasegawa 1/48 F/A-18 Hornet

Post by Ads24 »

Well, it's not perfect, but I'm calling it a day with this one. The Hasegawa kit is fantastic, as it should be for £65. I actually don't mind paying that for a kit, still seems like good value when you think of the hours and hours you put into build it. What does bug me is that there were no weapons. REALLY?! Come on, Hasegawa, at least chuck a few sidewinders in!

Strangely the thing I'm most pleased with is the small streaking effects made with Mig engine grease oil paint and a flat brush wetted with white spirit and then rubbing most of it off. Definitely be experimenting with oils more in future. Anyway, here it is...

Great looking build. Sucks they didn't include any weapons. You think they would at the cost of the kit. The streaking came out really well. I am going to attempt streaking on an upcoming kit and hope it turns out half as well. The vids always make it looks so easy.

Nice, its a bit of shame hasegawa leave such a big gap between the main wing and the flaps in the flaps down position. Its a lot more flush than that in real life.

Nice work on your behalf though!

Have a look at this picture.

It was actually really forgiving. I protected everything underneath with a clear coat, and was able to rub the oil off several times until I was happy with it. A technique definitely worth a try.
