Hello from exotic, sunny....Margate

Post by Jonnymoped »

Hi Guys

Just to introduce myself and give a bit of background. My names John from Birchington near Margate. I started making kits overenthusiastically from about 6 years old to 11 or 12. Usual thing too much glue, fingerprints on the glass, paint the whole lot gloss and slap the decals on like you were getting a horse to giddyup. I then had a break until about 22 then got into GW kit but was always more interested in modeling than the gaming side. Then at about 36 I had an epiphany with angels and choir music in the background........"I was going to build some large model aircraft to hang from my yet unborn sons ceiling" (say that like Jeremy Clarkson). Mmmmmm ............some years later the Short Stirling is still not finished and he's 11.

A couple of years ago I started painting and making GW figures with boy the younger. This was pretty sporadic stuff as we had to use the kitchen table you know 5 years to get it all out, have to put it away on your own cos he's got bored and gone back on the xbox but recently I have rediscovered my obsession for military modeling. I wanted my Games Workshop Ultramarines to look more weathered and battle worn so doing "research" (No love I'm researching rusting techniques, no love I'm not playing games, yes love I'll do the bins after I've looked at this, yes love honest this is important, yes love I am on youtube, no love it's not amusing kittens, no love it's not Linus the boxer, no love it's not the funny man with the snake up his nose or This is russia) sound familiar, anyway upto date here I am.

ISM and some of the other YT channels (makingmodelsagain, genisismodels, florymodels, lord coen : )have been an orgy of info that has also been immensely inspiring. So with a little bit of GW "tonight Harry I shall be mostly making" WWII fighters (battle of Britain), american jet carrier aircraft Corsair, Phantom and WWII armour...oh my god I love Tigers.

I shall try and get round to putting some bits on facebook and I apologies when they look like a chimp has done them but I'm just getting back into this :D so with some time and patience which I have non of in no abundance as I've just bought a boxer puppy I shall see you all on the forum.

John

PS Girl the elder is about to leave home so I have entered into top secret negotiations with the Mem Saab to turn half her old room into a cave. Mem Saab wants it as a spare room and has forbade paint racks (AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH) on the wall. the negotiations are ongoing and protracted. I might have to threaten to buy a big shed?

Thanks Guys. Paul I looked at your threads for your modelling cave. I need to get a better paying job or have my children sweep chimney's as it appeals to my DIY I did it myself satisfaction side. I love the quotes everyone has as well. I think I like "You can lead a horse to water but a pencil must be lead" Stan Laurel
