1:35 AFV Club Tiger 1 (latest-model)

I know, a lot of small updates these days, but I simply do not have the time to make big and long updates these days because some very big projects running at work that I have to supervise. So my head is spinning lately.
Weekends are for a small amount of modelling and family time.
So here's another small update.

I added the foliage to the base.

I used for the ground cover: A mix from plaster, water, wood glue and sand from one of our houseplants (don't tell my wife) And when that was dry I added a brown oil wash and a track wash. The grass and wild flowers are tufts from greenline. The bush is sea foam. Glued them on with wood glue. Then I brushed a matt varnish between the tufts and scattered "general green scatter" on top of it, made by reality in scale. When that was dry I sprayed some hairspray to finish it off..

I'm thinking of adding some steel plates with chalk markings on them outside the factory, but I have not decided that.
Still loads of work to do, planning of painting and weathering the tiger this Saterday morning when I have some "me" time.

Nice job Frans!

I like the dio set up. Some metal plates are a cool idea!

You know those PE weld seams? Where did you get them from? And are they flexible horizontally?

A lot more work then planned. ...
all I wanted to do is build a Tiger!

The weld lines are flexible vertical, ideal to follow square corners, and if bend gently even around round parts.
If you got a bender you can bend them horizontally if thats what you mean, but I would recommend the wide weld seams for that. I used the wide ones for the turret, the small weld lines are pretty darn small!
Got mine from a Dutch shop, but if you google on Aber photo etch, these are the numbers you must have:
Aber R-05 wide weld lines
Aber R-06 small weld lines

Time for another update

I painted the brick road in oils and when that dried up I added diluted wood glue between the bricks and added sand.

The bricks of the building are also painted in oils, with different shades of brown (fifty shades of brown..lol) and red brown.
I made a start at fading the paint on the metal doors. The kick plate is rusted, and I need to let it dry now before I can start chipping the doors and do some weathering at the bricks.

While that is drying, I made a start at painting the Tiger.
The Primer has dried for almost 6 days now, so I began pre-shading with dark grey.
This because I ran out of black....

And added the base colour of dark yellow.

I'm planning of using the camo pattern of gross Deutschland 1944

First colour, Camouflage brown from Vallejo
I'm, airbrushing the camouflage free handed with my H&S Infinity.

Second colour, Camouflage green from Vallejo

And after a High Gloss varnish from micro high gloss, she begins to shine

Looking pretty cool in front of the building...

After applying 5 decals in total, I varnished her again but this time with matt varnish from Vallejo.

Time to do some colour fading....
I'm using MIG Abteilung oils for this spot dot technique.
She looks a bit sick right now...

I blended the colours with a damp brush of white spirit.
The colour used are: German three tone fading, Faded navy blue for the shadow areas, and faded green for the green parts of the camo.

And this is how she looks faded.

A brown filter and wash added,

And this is the result after the wash and filter dried up.

It's been a sunny day today, so I took some pics in daylight outside, for the light indoors sucks a bit today...

Hmm... Pics are still not at my satisfaction... Might take some others soon...

And that's how far I am at this point.
Still loads of work ahead, chipping, pinwash and all, don't want to even think about the metal tracks right now...
But I'm getting there!

And I'm partly colour blind.

That means that I can see primary colours, but it's hard to see the difference between different shades of one colour or colours that are close together like this dark green and brown. I have to realy concentrate on the colours to use.
Thats why I make test runs and ask my wife's opinion.

Working with good light is a must!

I really see any problem with the decals on the zimmerit Frans. When I was doing mine I kept applying mr hobby settler liquid over it and constantly apply pressure on the decals using a thick brush

I did had one problem with the right decal on the turret though... I used to much decal sol, so the number two is dissolved now.... Thinking of painting on the missing number....

Small update....

I made a brown oil wash and applied it

Now that was the easy part..
I started chipping the turret. I would like to have some opinions about the chipping.
Normally I chip my AFV's lightly, but as this is a battered tank, I tried some more heavy wearing and some battle damage.
I think I'm on the right track here, but should it be more or not?

Machine gun and spare tracks are not painted btw...

The arrow points to the only thing I have treaded with bare metal pigments, if that is what you mean..
I have more edges and all to do with it.
I wasn't sure about the big surface chips that I painted in dark yellow. To simulate the camouflage paint chipped off.
It's really easy to over do chipping though

But at least I now know that I am on the right track here.

LOL! You now me, easy does it...
Nah, just haven't got much time to build lately... Due to my work. Just glad to be at home in the evening, and doing nothing for a while.
Most building happens in the weekends, that is If my wife and I does not have other obligations....

The oilpaint has left a slightly sheen on the model, yes, but nothing to serious though.
After weathering the model, I always finish by spraying a matt varnish over it.
So that will take care of the sheen.

Hope to finish this tiger this weekend, but no prommisses.... And i'm in no rush,

Hi guys!
I'm glad to say this tiger is really getting shape now!

This update is all about the tracks.
So no huge update, but a good one!

I'm using white metal tracks from Friul.
I blackened the links before I put them together, for I find this more easy.

Time to tackle this pile....

I'm on the right track now! LOL
Working in sections of 10 links each.
I need 96 links for one track, so this makes the counting and constructing more easy.

Both tracks done!

I used a mix of varnish and trackrust pigments to apply it on the tracks.
With that mix still being wet, I put some dry trackrust pigment and sand pigments on top of that.
Finished it of with a track wash.
I sanded the running surfaces shiny again with a piece of sand paper.

Time to put her new shoes on.
Always a tricky part IMHO, for it's really easy to damage the paint of the road wheels.
But when the tracks are on, this tiger transforms into the beast she was....

And that's how far I am today with this build.
Next up, detail painting and some last weathering.
When she's ready I will continue the base and finish the figure that comes with it.

It's funny, I put this Tiger next to my DAK tiger I build 2 years ago. . I actually improved my modelling skills! Lol

Aahhh way to much work for me
I painted the mg on mu big tiger the other day and used mr metal dark iron
Then buffed it with a brush
It gives a very nice dark metallic color and it finished in minutes including drying
If you have some you should try it , it is really worth it

TIGER FINISHED!

That's right.... This girl is finished.
I did paint the last details on her, and applied the last weathering.
I find it hard to stop at the right moment when weathering a vehicle, but I like my weathering done subtle, so this is how far I go.

Painted the fire extinguisher.

Sheer

And the other tools..
I now see that I forgot to paint the big metal rod at the back, so I will do that next time.

I even weathered and painted something I normally don't do, the backside of the wheels...
The wheel received a black wash, highlighted the bolds with a lighter base colour, and gave it a brown wash to finish

MG

The spare tracks received a heavy rust pigment mix with varnish, and when that dried up, I rubbed dark metal pigment over it to get a rusty metal look.

And here she is completed (with a exception of that rod.... )
I'm not going to take a lot of reveal pics of her, I'm saving those for the final reveal with the base and figure completed.

I just might to add some last moment stowage or chains or something, we'll see... I'm not sure if she is going to need that.

With this last pic, the tiger is done.
I'm now going to get cracking at the base and figure.

Lookin'good,can't wait to see her all done up on the dio.

As for forgetting to paint that bar,you aren't the only one that forgets things...I just gloss coated my Tiger and noticed that I forgot to paint the jack block and inside of the commander's hatch

nice one Frans! Looks brilliant. Weathering is spot on, can't wait to see it on the base. I always forget something too. Infact, I've forgotten to do any work on my tiger, I've lost all interest in it as I can't do what I had in mind for it, yet! I've built two spitfires and a destroyer though! Lol!
