Buckle down the hatches, a storm's comin'!!

In honour of Mike, I'm gonna blow the crap out of a Tiger 1
I'll build the Tiger 1 first, as to follow this SiG as best I can, then I'll get the Hawker Typhoon 1b prepped and ready for her bombing run.
Going to try something new by incorporating an in-flight 1/72 aircraft on a rocket/bombing run on a Tiger 1 target. The Tiger kit I got doesn't have any Zimmerit, but that's ok, I'll live. The scene will be taking place sometime around the Ardennes offensive in 1944.

So it looks like I'm super over-due for an update on this!
So, here 'tis!

I started putting together the Tiger kit first. Nice little Hasegawa kit - here's the innards..





These 1/72s are super tiny - very few steps. a few different options are included in the kit too - too bad I don't know a thing about Tiger's or German armour.
The kit parts look pretty good too. minimal flash - would have liked some zim, but at 1/72, I'm not sure if putty would be in scale...







I quickly got the turret put together, nothing overly complicated here.


Not the greatest fit, so filled in the gap with some TET and Tamiya putty.


Why would they even mold the pieces, if they ask you to just take em' off...


So... I followed the instructions without test-fitting and ended up cutting the wheel struts off... waiting for some styrene rod in order to fix it. So, I decided to get started on the Typhoon.







I'll post updated photos of the Typhoon once the glue and paint dries.... but in the meantime....

TIme for a MEGA UPDATE

Now that I'm f-unemployed, I have way more time to finish my models - no excuses... other than my constant attendance at my very own pity party

I digress...

I took a break on the Tiger 1 because I F*#$% up the wheels -- all good now, me thinks.
Aside from the instructions messing me up - my own stupidity won...



Out came the styrene...




I messed it up, AGAIN! ... but I think I finally got the hang of it now.
woops...



Looks like crud from the bottom... but who the hell is gonna pick it up and look.... right?!


But from the side... I'm happy.



Got all the dumb holes filled up

While waiting for the styrene to dry and hold up - I spent about 2 hours starting and finishing this little guy. UBER basic.






BAM! Drilled out the barrel hole here, too.

And now, time to get an idea of what I want. I built a little bunker out of foam, and covered it in drywall compound, it's SUPER light and before some washes and paints, I think it looks the part... forgot to add an exit, but, oh well. Used an Ultimate concrete wash over a few light sprays of various dark greys.





The Tiger 1 came with an extra barrel, so I'm thinking of doing something like this... sort of a combo between the two.



Started on a little wall made out of stone, with foam. I think it'll look pretty cool when done, and some moss, dry brushing and sh*te added.

So... Then I forgot to take some photos...
Got the base coat of Tamiya Dark Yellow down, then some red-brown and olive green free-hand camo... which is QUITE difficult (at least for me) at 1/72, so, I welcome advice. Hopefully with a filter and some chipping and weathering it'll come together. Got the VERY few tools and such painted on this cheapo kit (not much detail, but that's ok for me, for now). Maybe some clean-up will be required.






Got the little dudes all painted too. Field Grey for the uniforms, german/dark grey mix for the helmets, don't remember which brown for the mitts, and semi-gloss black for the boots. All I got is a wash or two, and to paint the casings (still trying to find the best colour)


Well, that's all for now - I have the top layer of clay setting at the moment, hopefully it'll be dry and ready to work with by tomorrow.

Wow! That's a whopper of a post. Huge amounts of cool stuff on the go.
That bunker and the gun are totally cool Mike. This is going to be a hell of a thing.

I can't really say much abut what to use for a filter on the tiger until after you've done a wash on her. Right now I don't think that it needs one, but after the wash that may change.
