Cyber Hobby PzKpfw IV Ausf B, in Poland

Well, while some other kits are on hold for painting while I am trying to fix my airbrush compressor (short of it, compressor fell, broke regulator off, and have to get a special tool to get the broken fitting out...or replace the compressor). So, to get working while those are on hold, I decided to start a new kit. Up to bat, the Panzer IV Ausf B by Cyber Hobby in 1/35. The Ausf B started production in 1938. Being an early war tank, it saw action in Poland, continuing on through France and other fronts. Since not many were produced, their numbers declined until being lost to attrition in 1943.

So, about the kit. While many models have some impressive box art, I really like the simple appearance of the Cyber Hobby white boxes, with the focus being on the actual vehicle, since that is all that appears.


Opening the box, it's like "holy sprues of infinity, Batman." Lots of detailed parts, some PE, some metal wire, metal barrel, and many other pieces of goodness.


There will definitely be some time devoted to this kit (but hopefully not too may parts trying to be superman and go off flying somewhere). Not much blue on the sprue list, especially compared to the last kit I worked on.

As far as finishing options, they only provide nine, but if you can't tell from the subject, I plan on going with a Poland unit, probably the first option (or at least one from 2 kompanie).



So the first steps (are there any tanks that the first step isn't the wheels?) is the wheels. I was given the option of using the gears with the bolts (already good detail) or without the bolts and I add them myself (12 microscopic pieces per gear x2 per drive then one for each side. That is a lot of math)


So call me lazy, but I went with the bolts already there (if they aren't bolts, please correct me, just what they appear to me). So one drive wheel consist of only 7 pieces. So this will take some time, but the detail will be excellent.

Yes, got a little sloppy with the cement on this one.

I built the dragon one and it was the most fun build I've had but i went for putting the bolts in option

Well, getting some progress made. Road wheels are all together, and suspension is on. Pretty sure everything is straight.


Turns out I was (accidentally) able to allow the suspension to move. I don't think the instructions explicitly stated it. This will come in handy to make sure everything is aligned nicely when getting to the later assembly.

On another note, I managed to try to throw away one of the return rollers. Luckily I was able to locate it. i probably should be more careful with the parts, even though I thought I was.

Things moving along little by little. Starting to look like a tank I think.




The vents were real fun to put together (decided to go with PE rather than plastic). First one wasn't to bad, but the second one, all I have to say is thank goodness for nail polish remover (acetone). Finished assembling completely and realized it was backward. Disassembled and started a second time, and disassembled again. Third time was a charm. I hope I have it right now.
