Re painting King Tiger question

Hi guys,

I've got a 1/35 king tiger that was my first kit when I got back into modelling. It's a bit tatty, and has been used as a bit of a practice kit for various things.

I'm thinking about re painting it, but I don't want to do the usual tri colour scheme. I've read that a few were painted in panzer grey, but I can't find any pics of this.

Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, any pics available?

If you want a plain colour, paint it in Middlestone (Dunkelgelb). Post 1942 (I think) all German tanks were painted Dunkelgelb straight from the factory.

I couldn't say for sure of course that it would be inaccurate to paint it Panzer Grey, but I personally would doubt any were painted in Panzer grey at that stage of the war, when air attacks were the biggest killer of tanks, I am sure the Germans would have wanted to conceal their King Tigers as much as possible.

Thanks Russ, I see this is a 'can of worms' situation! In which case, I'm going with the 'we've ran out of the tricolour paint, oh look, here's some old grey stuff, that'll do' scenario!

Cheers SDB, but I wanted to stay away from the usual colours. Plus, I'm in the middle of painting my M-10, so I'm sick of green paint! Lol!

Just had a better idea! I'll do it in a winter wash. That way I don't need to totally re do the main paint job, and saves on decals, winner!

I can't see any reason why it won't.

I'm I fussy fracker! Lol! I've got a panzer 3 in yellow and a Matilda 2 in yellow/brown/grey on the shelf, so I want something to look a bit different? That's why originally I wanted a grey one! Lol

Looks cool, still looks a bit 'desert' if you get my meaning. It's only 'cos I've got these on the shelf, so I wanted a scheme that would contrast with them.

There is some documentation of Panther tanks in panzer grey during the battle of Berlin. Never heard or seen anything about Tigers. Not entirely out of the realm of impossibility. Hey, it's your journey do what excites you! Lots of German AFVs were just dark yellow in the later stages. Well, that's my two cents worth.
