Airfix 1/48 Spitfire PR XIX

Post by chief5437 »

Yes, I know.... Another spitfire! This my sixth one so far. I'm trying for the full set, but struggling to find decent kits for some of the marks. But these new tool Airfix kits are really good to build. This is the last one it need that Airfix does, hopefully they'll bring some more out soon!

Anyway, here's the boxart

Image

Decals for two aircraft, Brit and Swedish

Image

Nice, glossy, two sided paint guide

Destructions

Image

Three grey sprues, nice detail, no flash, bonus! :thumb1:

Clear parts. Nice and clear, a little distortion due to blown shape. No problem.

Wish me luck! :cheers2: :cheers2:

This is a nice kit, good luck with the build!

Just watch the wing to fuse fit, I had some issues there with gap.

Other than that a trouble free and pleasant build. I did the Swedish one.

:cheers2:

Cheers buddy, I watch out for that. Btw, what did you use for PRU Blue? I'm at work so I'm assuming the Swedish one was still PRU blue?! :thumb2:

Yes the swedish "S31" as it was designated, was kept in PRU blue.
I think they even bought lots of paint with the 55 planes.
I used Vallejo ModelAir 71.109, U.K. PRU blue.

Little bit of progress on this.

Got the cockpit and camera parts built and painted. Also painted the sidewalls.

Gave it a gloss coat then a wash of Humbrol dark brown, which seems to be taking FOREVER to dry! :pistols: :pistols:

So it's kind of at a halt until it dries, it's been 24 hrs so far!

Thanks for looking fellas :cheers2:

Hi guys, this is all done now. Here's some more build pics.

Main assy done, only a small amount of filler needed.

Image
Image

Painted up, might not be an exact match, but I like it! Gloss coat and decals added.

Image

Panel line wash

Image

Then started some weathering, most of my spitfires are pretty clean, so I wanted a well used look for this one.

Image

Toned back and blended a bit.

Image

Made the camera windows from pva.

Image

Turned out nice!

Image

Added the small details, and we're done!

Image

I'll stick some more pics in the gallery section. Thanks for looking guys, and for the input :cheers2: :cheers2: :thumb2: :thumb1:
