Coming back to the hobby

Hi guys and girls, I've recently decided to come back to the hobby after a couple of years away. Before I stopped modelling, most of what j done was games workshop stuff or more specifically bloodbowl and Lord of the rings. In the past I done air fix kits, generally ww2 aircraft and a couple of tanks. Never really had great results but have recently bought an airbrush (iwata neo cn). After searching YouTube about airbrushing I came across pauls tutorial with the bf109. I am currently watching the step by step guide for f15-d. And I think watching these has reignited my enthausasim for the hobby again. This time however I plan to do things right and try and get the results you guys do. So I just thought I'd introduce my self to you and look forward to reading through forums and watching videos. And hopefully one day soon I'll have a model that I can photograph and post that's worthy of this group.

Just out of interest, when you were doing your games workshop stuff, did you use the Citadel paint range? I only ask because there is a games workshop shop near me but no model shop nearby. I'm thinking of maybe getting some of the Citadel paints for modelling to see how they work out. What do you think?

I found citadel paints really good for brush work. I would imagine they would need a lot of thinning for an airbrush though if you use one. At the time I was out and out citadel never used anything else however the metallics range I would steer away from (just my opinion). Reason they don't mix well and can sometimes give a streaked effect just where you don't want it. There new range of layer paints look great with a nice Matt finish to them. Can't comment on there shades range as haven't used them. You'll find the staff at gw shops very experienced and any tips for using there paints they are happy to share. When I used them the even done free painting workshops. HTH

No problem let me know how you get on with airbrushing it. I don't have guts to try it on my airbrush lol.

Citadel paints airbrush very well especially thinned with Ultimate thinner. The metal range of paints are the best acrylic metals IMO

Ummm maybe they improved them since I last used them then. Mind you last time I bought from metal range was about 6 years ago. Cool to know about airbrush though. May try metal range again.

Wow! That's pretty good news actually! I think their range is only about 70 or so colours, but at least the basic colours should be available. That's very useful to know Paul, thanks.

Welcome aboard Hawk, I think most if not all of us are retreads back to the hobby, seems to be the way.
Certainly for me - 25 year layoff.. back with a vengeance. Forums like these are the places I got advice and inspiration to build and improve. Don't be shy, put your stuff up and feel safe. They are all good, and that's why you have a stash - to do a little bit better each time...
