Here's this years entry to the 2015 Easter Eggplane Sig. I'm gonna try something new call me mental but I'm gonna try and free hand the artwork on this build. May the styrene gods be on my side

The decal sheets provided look great with crisp, clean details. But due to the nature of the paint scheme these will most likely not be used.

Being only a 1 sprue kit parts are quickly clipped off the tree ready for clean up.

I have this old 1-144 F-106 kit laying around in my stash, and to be honest I have no idea how this nasty kit got in there. So the external fuel tanks will make a nice edition to this F-16.

Here's the main air frame put together, and the pilot mounted on a cork painting stand ready for primer.

The external fuel tanks below moulded in the white styrene is going to suit this build without looking out of scale.

Now that the parts are all sanded down and I was happy with the finish, it's was time for primer.
Alclad micro filler primer is what I'm going to use for this build.

Once the primer had dried overnight, a base coat of Italeri flat white was airbrushed to give me a canvas to work on, and painting on white will also make the colors pop. With the reference picture in front of me, the outlines were drawn on using a fine lead pencil.

Luckily I was on a G+ Hangout with the boys from ISM so I didn't go mad.

With the pilot primed and painted, I wasn't happy with the look of the figure as being Easter it didn't look the part for this brightly coloured Egg-16.
So with a great Tip from Wes I decided to turn this pilot into a bunny with simply some thin plasticard and some paint.

Here he is all snuggly in his cockpit, and a shot of what he looked like before the plastic surgery.

With the pilot detailed up some more and finished,it was time to gloss coat the entire Egg-16 with Vallejo gloss varnish. After that a black clay based wash was carefully applied around all the recesses and left to dry and wiped back with a damp paper towel and a cotton tip.

Now that I still have more than 3 weeks left to spare I decided to add this plane on a basic dio base. I have alot of old empty cd cases laying around, so 1 was split in half and plasticard is added to fill in the centre gap.To bind the card to the case a heavy application of Tetra solvent was used to melt them together and it worked a treat.


The card was trimmed back with a hobby knife.

To add a little texture Pva and sand is put down on the corner edges circled here

Lines are then ruled out and scribed back with a Tamiya plastic scriber so as a wash is going to sit nicely in the recess panel lines. The Silver pencil on the left is what I used to sketch out the original design on the Eggplane. I'm using a .05mm lead inside.

Here's the burner can sprayed up and sealed with Mr Hobby Bufferbles 214 Dark Iron

Time to prime the base using Vallejo dark grey primer ssssssssssssssssss done.
A base coat of Tamiya XF54 Dark Sea Greay was sprayed down, then XF1 Flat Black sprayed in all the recess panel lines for the pre-shade stage and also over the sand.

A light coat of XF54 Dark Sea Grey was sprayed in misty layers over the pre-shade until it was just visible, then a slightly heavier towards the centre of each panel.
XF52 Flat Earth is put down on the earth works, then lightly drybrushed with XF59 Desert Yellow.
The base was then given a coat of Vallejo's gloss coat and left to dry.

Ultimate's Dark Dirt was brushed on only in the recesses, left to dry then removed with a damp paper towel.
After the Dark Dirt was cleaned back Tamiya Brown and Black panel line enamel washes are also put down using capillary action, left to dry for 15 minutes and removed with a damp cotton tip moistened with enamel thinners in a streaking action. Games Workshop static grass is layed down with PVA craft glue, this was done while the enamel washes were drying.

Low tac masking tape is layed out for the runway lines, Italeri Flat White is sprayed down in several light coats to ensure bleeding did not happen. The two outside lines acted as an undercoat for the next colour.
Reaper 29808 Golden Yellow from the HD series of paints is used for the two outer lines.
Vallejo Gloss Coat is sprayed over again to seal in the lines and the Tamiya enamel washes are used again to weather up the lines.

Weathering powders are used just to blend out the edges of the runway. Dark Earth and Sand.

Excellent groundwork there...I would have stopped at the first grey primer pic, but you kept going and made it look AWESOME!!!

To add the skid marks on the runway Humbrol's Black and Smoke weathering powders will be used in this step.
To make sure the marks were spaced the correct distance, the Egg-16 was put down as a guide.

The smoke powder is layed down first as it's a lighter shade. The Black is then sparingly put down more towards the center.

To finish it off Vallejo Matt coat is airbrushed on to seal in the pigments.

Small holes are drilled through the base and wheels then fixed down with a small splash of CA. Thin wire is used as pins to make the bond stronger.
