Hmm maybe I'll do a T34, putting the camo I like on a BT-7 could prove a little too challenging for a 1st one back type model lol

I don't think that there's a hurry Mcleod.
I wonder if anyone else wants to give this a whirl.
We should set up a thread for it.
Something like WOT T34 Buddy Build.
I've never done anything like this... could be really cool.

If I manage to get the cash for a new kit then I would be happy to get a T-34 and join in this as well. Chances are it won't be for a while though either.

Right then.
Since this is Mcleod's idea, and we have a few weeks to get ready, how about ideas for a framework then so we can get into action Buddy.
Not so much rules... but suggestions...or rules?

I don't have a mountain of time at the moment with the three builds that I've got on the go.
I'm just about done one of them and that should free up some time.

Re: World of Tanks

Post by McLeod »

Well we got plenty of time as I'm skint and it will be a while before I can get all the necessary bits, so time aint an issue lol.

I was thinking that it would have to be a tank found in World of tanks, so that opens it up to hundreds of possible builds, so the guys that want to do it but say don't have for example a T34 can make anything in their stash that appears in WoT.

The builds would have to be as close as possible to the in game representation, detailing, painting, camo, weathering etc (some of the weathering in the game is actually really nice).

You can do different variants of tanks because in WoT the way the upgraded turrets and guns work is that they are usually from different versions of the real life vehicle - and some experimental and prototype ones too

For example I'll be doing a T34, probably a Dragon kit that comes with loads of PE detailing, that I wont have to use because in the game its just not there, likewise the external fuel tanks aren't in the game either, so things like that will have to be taken into account.

The great thing I like about this is when it comes to reference, its all there in the game in glorious HD and if someone wants to build a tank that they don't have in game - chances are someone else will have it and we can share screenshots etc.

Sounding good so far ?

yeah I've seen those, there just normal Revell kits with a world of tanks invite code where you get some gold and premium account time for new players. Still good idea for the budget concious, personally I prefer the larger scales.

So what restrictions should there be on scale... 1/35 only?
Or all scales as long as it's a vehicle that appears in WOT?
I think that I like the open scale idea best for opportunity and creative license sake.
How about diorama or vignettes bases?
Should they be allowed or not?
If they are maybe only one vehicle should appear... or as many as are wanted.

Just a few suggestions for parameters.

I'm actually getting pretty excited about this now. There are over a hundred vehicle in WOT maybe 200.
With the camo options they're almost unlimited variety.

That's what's so exciting.
There are far too many creative people on the forum for this to be dull.
Those paper panzers will be hard to knock together, but there are tanks and TDs on WOT that there isn't a kit for... or even close.
Maybe someone will do and old fashioned complete scratch like from the old days.

Re: World of Tanks

So then, so far I have come up with this list:

Must feature in World of tanks.
Can be any scale.
Can be in any media - kit, scratch built etc, doesn't have to be OOB.
Must be as close to the in game one as possible, correct gun, turret, detailing, no open hatches etc.
Must be painted in colours or camo that are in the game and correct patterns, weathering etc.
Insignias, slogans and logos can be added providing they are available in the games external markings options or current clan icons.
Bases or dioramas can be done providing it reflects a setting from the game.
Battle damage can be added as long it matches the effects in the game.
Once tank has been decided on, screenshot of said tank to provided for comparison and initial launch so to speak, eg: I'll be using this "kit, bits etc" to make this "screenshot".

I'm thinking no particular time limit as lots of you guys are busy on other projects and I'll be getting bits and pieces for it on an "as and when I can afford it basis" lol

That sound ok ?

If I remember correctly... you go to your garage.. pull up your tank in question... pose it the way you need... then hit Print Screen.
It takes a screen shot.
Where it saves it ... well That I don't know.

If you hit print screen in game it will save the screenshots to c:Games\World_of_tanks\screenshots.

You can do it in the garage or whilst in the actual game to get action shots, you can whilst playing press v and it will remove all the hud and scoreboards etc so you can get a clean shot.

there might be ways of setting it up to send straight to pictures folder but I have windows 7 too and it just goes to the world of tanks folder
