Peppie's egg build(s)

Started this hobby again in the beginning of 2014, and had never heard of an egg plane.
Seeing the Egg plane GB last year, I thought: OMG this is fun, next time I'm gone
join this.
Time went by and I completely forgot about this.

Then I saw you guys presenting your builds and realized time was allready there and
I don't have an egg plane in my stash and the GB is only 1 month... Ah, maybe
next time...
Next day I was in the supermarket for some shopping, and there I saw something that
made me change my mind....

Ok, better explain myself.
And what better way then using pics.

So, here is the box.

With no sprues, only loose parts..
Seeing this was a bit boring I remembered I had a detail set lying around somewhere.

Ok, it's no Aber or Eduard, but this will have to do for now.
Let's see what we can do with this..

Eehmmm, don't know 'bout you guys, but to me this looks like crap.... More like
it flew into the egg...
And because the kit itself also was one ugly mess, it had only one place to go..

There goes my plan..

What to do know? This?

Maybe something like this?

So with many ideas, some left over parts, some Evergreen and lots of stuff lying
around the house I decide to just start and see where it went.

Took one of the eggs and cut of a piece.

Discovering the eggs were not hollow but made off styrofoam with a hard layer around
them. Makes it a little more challenging..
Top of a smaller egg.

Glued a plate of EG on top, because the styrofoam is impossible to work with, and placed
the smaller one on top.

See where I'm going with this? No?
Let me show you.

Next I opened up the "spares" box, and found this.

It's the half of an airfilter from a 1:16 kit of a Vw Beetle.
Glued some sides in it, made the back round to fit the egg, took a Evergreen tube I painted
some metal colour in the past, and stuck it all to the small part.

Maybe now you see...
Oh, and I also stuck a plate to the bottom.

Next I cut me a square.

Drew on the outlines off the egg.

Cut the plate in half, and......

Presto, got me some fenders
Box open again, and from the same Beetle, a hub cap.

Put some dents in it in the past, going to leave that for realism.
Sanded the logo off and placed it.

Not sure about this. .... But leaving it for now.

Some tubing, closed up on one side.

Some smaller ones in there, and stuck them to the back.


Decided the top could use some details, so looked up some pics on the internet and
came up with this.

Tried to use a teabag as a grid, but that went a bit wrong with the glue. So I
scribed myself one.
Grab handels.


Next up, some tracks.
I'm not (yet) a tank builder, so I don't have these lying around...

Friday afternoon I went to my friends house for a beer, kind of a tradition. He's not
really in to modelling but allways interested in what I'm building. So told him
about my egg an that I was thinking about how to make some tracks. Maybe use some
elastic bands or something. He gave me this.

Is a belt from a electric motor to open a garage door. Motor was broken, so he gave
me the belt (in the pic I allready cut it in half).
Want to use it the other way around, but it keeps bending back.

So, only solution to give it a track shape...

Took some convincing and a lot off CA.
This way it's also easier ataching them to the egg later.

Now for some wheels..... Tried cutting them in the past, but somehow I never manage to
get them nice and round. Have to think about this some more..

Stuck the fenders on and instead off filling the gap, I glued some rod on top,
making the fenders stronger as well.

Glued a floor plate between the two tracks, connecting them so I can paint them separatly.
And to show you what I've got up to now placed the body on top of it.

So, okay it's a tank.. Anyone know which one....?

Next, again some tubes. Bigger ones this time.

Closed them up on both sides this time. Used soem fine strips of alu tape to make some
straps on them. Drilled a hole in it and also in the egg, and stuck in a piece of rod,
so I can place them later.

Yep, auxilllelelelrlely......uhm ...... extra fueltanks.

Surely somebody must know what tank it is now....

Anyway, on with the build.
Decided I didn't like the hatch, so off it went. Searching through the spares box, I found
a small dome with a hole on the side. I believe it was from a 1/72 Ju52 which I built without
any guns.
Stuck in a piece of rod, drilled a hole, and...

Hatch open.

All it needs now is a hole, so drilled a small one first and then I took out a bigger one.

Ouch.... that didn't go well...
The shell is very hard and breaks easy.
Opened the spares box again, and found this ring from the same Ju52.

Put some Vallejo putty around it to close the gap, trying to immitate a weld. Not sure about
this, maybe I will sand it back later.
Letting this dry, I added some bits to the fenders, to make them look more like fenders.


Now, during all this I kept thinking about what to do with the wheels. Then I thought off
something. Went into the garage and came back with a hand full off these. I believe you
call them washers.

And you kow what? They fit exactly! Sometimes you need some luck....

Well, 3 of them do, so I added a smaller one as a front wheel (sorry ,don't know it's name..)
Cleaned them well, because the tend to have oil on them, and glued some Evergreen on the back.

Layed them down against a ruler, to keep them in line, and glued a rod on the back.

I did this so I could place them easier, after painting, against the evergreen and also placing
them more to the outside off the track.

Stuck on some small rings from the box to ad some detail and put the whole thing together to see
what it looks like up to now.

Woohoo, I'm loving this GB.
Sorry for the big update, but when the ideas come to me, it is very hard fro me to stop.
And seeing English is not my own language, it takes me some time to write these updates.

Next time I'll be adding a few more bits and bobs, oh and I have to sort out what to do
with the hole in the back.
After that, paint. Gonna be interesting with the tracks...

Part 2.

Sorry, was a little busy with "life", but here we are again.
On with the build...

Saw on the internet (sorry, don't know much about tanks..), that these things also
have a machingun on the front.
So back to the sparesbox, where I found a half round piece off clear and a small gun,
of witch I cut off the handle.

Glued the clear to the front, off centre, and drilled a hole for the barrel.


Gonna put some Vallejo putty around, to make a nicer connection.

Next up, cables.
Took some wire.

Used a vice to twist it.

Instant cable.

Bend the ends over to create an "eye", and put some tubing on.

Much to big I know, but he, it's supposed to be a fun build right? (also, I tried
to use some tape, but it wouldn't stick... .).

Hmmmm, I think the build is done now.... Oh shoot, almost forgot about the hole in
the back. Went for another looksie in the box, and found this piece.

Looks like it belongs there.

Time for some colour.
Starting of course with some Vallejo primer.


While this was drying, started to tidy up my work table a bit. Then this.....

Small tube of ca glue started leaking and is now stuck to my table..... (Homer voice) DOH..
Don't have the nerve to pull it off, since it's an almost new tube and will probably tear
when I pull it. So it's still there now.....nice.....


Anyway....


Went on with the painting.
First up, some preshading.

After that, some green. Some Russian green off course..

And some fading / highlighting.

Gave it a coat off shine, and opened the map with the spare stickers. Found these.

Left overs from a Ford V3000 build I did.
Cut me some numbers (or letters.... ) and a star and with the help of some water and sol,
stuck them on.

Where this made me think off something else...

You Dutchies will know what I'm talking about!

Sorry bout that....
Ok, painted some details like the exhausts, machinegun and the grid.

And used the rust colour, to give the tracks a first colour.

And what goes good with a Heineken..... some chips!

Setting them up with Vallejos black-gray, and finishing them with my fav rust
colour, burnt umber.

Some gloss again, and on with the Ultimate Dark Dirt.
Wash on...

And wash off....

A bit hard to see, with the shine and all, but I used the wash also to create some
streaking.

With the cables on.
Black chalks.

For smoke stains on the exhausts.

And the nozle.

And to finish it all off, some dusting.

Also, like the smoke stains, bad to see on these pics. Will make better ones soon.

And that's it!

Maybe I'll make a base for this, don't know yet.
You will see when I present this creation in the Final Reveals.
