I've used that trick myself. The twist ties can also be used (sometimes) were clamps won't work and I use them to mark the orientation of tracks before I take them off for painting.

Personally I would go in from the other end with the wire, as to push the offending dried glue away from the fresh glue....otherwise, your going to get old dried glue in the new, and create more blockages...just my pennys worth...

I know a simpler and quicker way.
Hold a lighter under the needle for a few seconds. You'll hear a small pop, and the tip will start to burn for a second. Blow out the flame if needed and squeeze some glue out. And that's it.

Thats exactly how i do it too, takes about 10 seconds

Okay , now someone let me know how to get the top off a Tamiya super glue , brand new, just got it ready to use , not able to get the bloody top off !

Mine was really hard to open as well. Have you tried using some pliers?

It's got a white powdery coating on the orange tip, from previous experience its knackered, will try the pliers but I won't be able to cover the tip again if successful me thinks
