Tamiya 1/35 Sturmgeschütz IV "Waidmanns Heil"

Hello folks! I will be starting a build and small diorama of Tamity's Stug IV.

Whats the idea? As we all know the Stug was an assault gun and infantry support vehilce but very quickly found it self taking the roll of tank destroyer and with good bloody reason! The Stug could be seen on all fronts either charging with the troops or hidden and waiting. Well this diorama intends to depict a Stug IV on the eastern front during one of Russia's brutal winters, hidden, lining its shot up to some unfortunate Russian vehicle.

This will be a rather difficult project for me as i tend to either do no weathering or go over the top with it, so the challenge for me is finding the right ammount of weathering and to increase my skills in building dioramas and using all sorts of bits and bobs to make things such as trees, snow, icicles, etc.

For those interested i will keep this as updated as much as possible as i progress through the build. Also for those interested waidmanns heil means good hunting in German

The wheels were nice and easy to assemble which is expected with tamiya, they have poly caps inside to allow them to be slotted on to the suspension and allows them to move freely.

The wheels have been primed and painted, a bit more paint is needed at the back of the wheels but ill get to that later as they're drying now, once painted i shall weather them as best i can.

The rear plate of the Stug, simple and straight forward to assemble and doesn't look to bad.

I have added the suspension and track guide wheels to the body of the stug, simpel and straight forward as always with tamiya. Stupidly i forgot to paint the guide wheels before attaching them but this is a minor setback.

The rear plate has been added to the body of the Stug.

I have built the gun. The barrel came in two parts as is per usual with pretty much every kit i have come across. I must point out the gun mantlet, i've always loved the way it looks on Stugs.

The gun is held in place by a small pin and this cone stopper which allows the gun to be moved, though of course the gun traverse is limited.

I have added other small parts to the inside of the Stug such as the periscope, figure base and two side panles. Its coming along nicely

I wouldn't worry too much about those return rollers, if it's because you were planning to paint the rubber with the rollers, its not really a problem... Those are the later steel rollers. So there's no rubber to paint.
