Splinter Camo for Stuka

Hi,
looking for ideas and suggestions on appling splinter camo to 1/72 Academy Stuka .

What is it your needing help with mate? Colour choice or how to go about painting splinter camo?

For colours, its really your own choice. As for how to go about painting it. Paint the base colour first, then use masking tape to cover the parts to remain as the base colour. Use the kit instructions to help with the shape/relative size of the camo areas. Luckily with splinter camo, its all straight edged, so its not too hard to mask!

What Gav ^ said. The call outs on the painting diagram should tell you what colours to use. Thouh you may need to use a colour conversion chart.

^^ as above. If its a particularly complex pattern or more than a few colours, there maybe a pre cut mask available for your kit. I got one for my F-15 in aggressor splinter scheme, as it was three colours and a complex pattern. It worked really well and can save you a ton of time. A good trawl through google should let you know if its available. HTH

This is a really old Revell 1:72 Stuka kit brush painted with Humbrol enamels.



For the colours you either need to convert them to the type you use ( for this I use an ap on my iPhone called "iModelKit") our get the recommended colours.

I worked from lighter to darker colours so the blue went on first, then this was then masked with Tamiya tape. The topside was then all painted the light green and then the patern was masked off with thin strips of Tamiya tape and the dark green applied. You end up with something like this:



Then I do the details (exhausts etc) freehand. The canopy can also be masked but this one was done freehand with a small flat paintbrush.

If you brush a little Klear on the edges of the tape before painting it will help prevent the paint bleeding underneath it durring application.

The entire kit was then gloss varnished, decals applied and then mat varnished.

Ill have to remember that tip about the klear always get the odd bleed.

The klear thing is a great idea, I learn something new every time I come on here!
If only I could remember to implement them all, lol!
