Eye Spy Sig Guidelines and rules

Post by Paul »

What is a Special Interest Group Build (SiG)?

A special interest group build is where anyone on the forum (who wants to participate) gets together and picks a mutual subject to model, usually targeted at a specific subject or era. It will usually run over an agreed span of time (every 3 months for ISM). Everyone who's entered posts up their progress (in pictures) as they build the model with a final reveal and showcase at the end. There are usually a specific set of loose rules to say if it's got to be OOB (Out Of the Box) or you can add extras such as PE (Photo-Etch), after market resin parts or decals etc. There's never a rush and we will allow enough time to participate in the SiG and do all your usual modelling at the same time.

There will be 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes kindly sponsored by SnM Stuff for most SiGs. I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank Sean at SnM Stuff for their continued support, it's greatly appreciated. Please go and check their website out, they have an awesome array of paint.

Because at ISM our ethos is that it doesn't matter what you build or how it turns out, as long as you enjoyed the journey, the way who gets the prizes is determined is going to be totally different to every other modelling website! It's not going to be just the prettiest or best built model that wins or places, the prizes will go to the best overall build thread. This means the more back story to your model you post, the more updates (with pictures) you post, the better the explanation of your techniques to achieve the end result (inc your youtube vids) you post, the better chance you will have of getting placed for a prize. Basically what this means is that the more you share your information, the better the benefit to the modelling community, which in turn benefits everyone of us. So, it doesn't matter if you're all thumbs, just started modelling last week, or can't achieve an exact replica of the subject you're building, we want to see that you've enjoyed the journey to the end result, no matter how it's turned out and most importantly, that you've had FUN getting there.....

Special interest group builds are great fun and gets a committed few working together towards the same goal and helps to get modellers out of their usual comfort zone and try something else whilst sharing their tips & techniques with the whole community. If you've never entered one before, don't be shy and have a go, we'd love to see your work.... :D

In The Eye Spy Special Interest Group Build Guidelines - PLEASE READ

Objective: Build and share any Spy, Recon or observation vehicle or aircraft that was produced and in service from any country, conflict or non-conflict.

Special Interest Group Build Guidelines...

1. Any kit that depicts any Spy, Recon or observation aircraft or vehicle
2. Any kit manufacturer.
3. Any scale.
4. Anyone can join regardless of skill level.
5. There is no restriction on material or any after market products.
6. Scratch building is allowed.
7. After market decal sets are allowed.
8. You can enter as many times as you like.
9. All kits MUST be in unstarted condition - no exceptions (damaged while in transit sprue parts are allowed).
10. All entries must have a build thread in this SiG forum area for the entry to be valid.
11. A progressive build thread must be posted - which must include sprue and box shots, regular picture and/or video updates with comments on hints & tips - by sharing your build progress others can learn.
12. You must provide a minimum of three still photographs (as well as any video) as part of your final reveal.

Have FUN

If you're not sure of anything then please PM myself or Lee, we're here to help.

Duration: 3 months (12 weeks)

Start date: Wednesday 1st July 2015
Finish date: Wednesday30th September 2015 at midnight GMT.

Another Awesome array of prizes that everybody has a shot at winning...

Don't forget - It's not going to necessarily be the prettiest model that gets placed, it'll be the overall build thread, the contribution made and the information provided by that member that decides the prizes. Places will be chosen by the Admin and their decision is final. Good luck people :D

Hmm we were thinking more along the lines of spy aircraft etc, besides the vehicle needs to be in production and have been in service

Besides it was never in service anyway and fictional/prototype vehicles are not eligible.

They are the group builds rules, its not mandatory to take part in every sig or gb. No point throwing your toys out the pram because you cant get your own way.

Did you take part in the rising sun GB you could have done a bond car in that.

We've already answered a question regarding a paper panzer, should we bend the rules just for you.

The title of the SiG is Eye Spy with regards to military reconnaissance vehicles that have been in use/service at some point in history, which has been mentioned several times. NOT make believe vehicles from films that just have the word "Spy" in the title or relating to unfit men that can beat up 20 mean in one go :th:

If you don't like the rules, don't enter. It's as simple as that. There is absolutely no need to throw your toys out of the pram for such a silly little thing is there?

While I'd like to build a F-5 Lightning for this group build, I don't really have the time (or money) for it. I think I'll build my Tristar Sd.Kfz. 222 for it.

I don't think so. Reconnaissance and search and rescue and two different military operations.

I still don't know what i will enter for this sig
I have the choise of a sd.kfz. 250/9 recon half track with some pe for the turret or the sd.kfz 234/1 heavy recon car wich i wanted to enter in the 6 or more wheels sig last year but i had too much on the go at that time
Both are dragon kits so they are pretty good in terms of quality and detail
Well i still have some time to think as i have a few other builds to finish but i am sure i can and will enter as i like the subject so i hope to join as soon as possible

I am leaning towards that option but as a build it is a much more complex one with the suspension and the full interior
The other kot has a interior too but that.is less complex and the suspension is hidden so easier to do
I will clear the bench first and then i will decide or maybe i won't choose and try to build both of them in time

@ Paul

Tried all of that mate, done every possible combination of uninstalling the app, installing, you name it. Basically when I hit upload nothing happens, I don't even get photos to select to upload, and yes, I've got 'Let Photobucket access your photos' checked.

Edit: Just downloaded the app again and it seems to be working now. Weird.

Thanks Mark, i did watch it and then figured out that photobucket works differently on android than it does on mac, you have to hit the little triangle type symbol and then save to clipboard.

Would a Willys Jeep with driver count as a recce vehicle? The Italeri 1/35 set is on sale at my local model shop and I'm itching to give it a go.... plus this will be my first ever 1/35 build and if I could enter a group build it would give me some extra motivation

Just wondering if this staghound would be allowed.
Did some googling and it says it was used as a heavily armored reconnaissance vehicle.
So If its allowed? Don't have time to do big projects for i'm moving this October, this would be a lovely small kit.

I think that would be allowed yes, majority of WW2 armoured cars were developed for and deployed in the reconnaissance role. So I would say yes, but Lee or Paul may wish to overrule.

That's cool Gav :-)
Already spoke to Paul on Facebook and he said that if i can prove that the staghound was used in reconasanse role, it was ok by him. Did found some info on the web about it, and now that the kit arrived its even in the manual so i think im safe on this one!

I'm thinking I might well have time to join in the fun if that's OK. The only kit in the stash likely to qualify is my Airfix Nimrod. Was going to build it up as an MR1 flown out of Malta. I'm sure it does but I'm new so I'll double check. Does it qualify?
