Nice start mate! I have this kit to build, so I'll be watching how the build goes closely. Enjoy the rest of the build! :thumb1:

Thanx Martin,

I've found this build rather enjoyable.
The kit comes together like a charm. :)
Off all the nice painting schemes i'll choose for Manfred van Richthofen's all red DR-1.
I know this is quite boring, but one must have a red triplane on its shelf ;)

And having bought the duo-kit which supply's 2 DR-1's means that the other plane will have the more colorfull paintscheme of manfred's brother Lothar van Richthofen. who was a great ace in his own right, downing forty Allied planes.

Plane in primer and pre-shade.
DSC_0457a.jpg

the engine only half of it painted ( as it will mostly be hidden behind the motorcover)
and last picture after some layers of paint sprayed on with my airbrush

On the horizontal stabilizer Eduard replicated some ribs.

for this plane i sanded these down after seeing the next few pics on the net
as can be seen the surface of the horizontal stabilizer is flat with no ribs protruding through the fabric.

In a spare moment i tried to replicate the striped camo
The axle-wing was a willing victim for my tries.
cause in the end the axle-wing will be painted/ sprayed as one colour (no camo)

i didn't take a picture of my first try.

This is a picture of my second try.
20150323_213159.jpg
Still not satisfied, cleaned up the mess i made
and onwards too my third try
20150323_214201.jpg
I think this result is convincing enough and i'll be quite happy if i can get this on almost the whole plane (without the dust ;) ).

At last i pushed myself to make a start at the dreaded striped camo wich came standard on a DR-1

Both sides are done now, and i'm pleased with this result.
Now only the rest of the plane to do

Any suggestions are welcome.

At last an update.

Everthing what should be striped is painted with the striped camo.
I used strongly thinned enamel paint and gradually built up the striped camo.
I don't know about you But i'm rather pleased about how it turned out.

behold a plane covered with stripes.
20150404_093322.jpg
I'm using the colour scheme as shown on IPMS CLICK HEREfor reference.
next i painted the fields for the crosses (top wing and sides of the fuselage)
Applied a clear coat of varnish and stuck on some decals.
another coat of varnish to protect the decals.
And here is how she's looking by now.
ready to recieve her yellow tale.

that's all for now. till next time

This kit from eduard is a enjoyable build.
And with all the different colour scheme options that once flew, this one doesn't have to be boring.

I'am curious what about your opinions.
Thanks for watching.

Fantastic work on both kits. I've built this one as a 'get up to speed' kit as I've been away from the hobby for decades and the work on the machine guns and ammo chutes is superb, I know how fiddly they are!

Thanx Avgas. It was indeed a enjoyable build. It was my second build after being away from the hobby for more than 20 years.
