Hawker Hurricane Mk.1

Post by newpapajack »

Hi guys, here's some pictures of my latest finished model. A Mk.1 Hurricane by Airfix in 1/72 scale. I think it's the new tooling as it went together very nicely, loads of detail and the decals were cartograph so were top quality.
I wanted a moderately weathered look as this plane was right in the thick of battle over France and Britain back in 1940 so would have had a tough life!
I used both enamels and acrylics for the paintwork, faded, toned and some staining with pigments, Mig and Ultimate washes, I used a mixture of clear coats to try and simulate different reflectivity in the paintwork, AK air effects for some mild staining like oil and fuel and finally I used a karismacolour 949 pencil for the chipping effects, was my first attempt at chipping and can recommend these pencils as they are excellent!
Hope you like it, cheers :)

No.85 Squadron, RAF. Part of the Advanced Air Striking Force based in Lille-Seclin, France in May 1940.
(I believe this squadron also served in the Battle of Britain a few months later, although please correct me if I'm wrong) ;)

Beautiful looking build Sir. Amazing how different the Hurricane looks with those canvas wings and that colour scheme. Superb.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.
