Dragon BMP-2

Hello all,

Hereby my entry for this Group build. A 1/35 scale BMP-2E from Dragon. I have ordered some aftermarket things to make the model look a bit nicer(hopefully).I’m not sure yet which army it will represent but it will be desert themed of course.
This is my first entry in one of these kind of contests ever so I hope I don’t lack too much in skill level compared to all the experts here!

The photo’s of the box and the kit. I will upload the pictures of the aftermarket stuff as soon as possible.

Good luck with the kit....

Trumpeter has released a newer kit of it... but I have seen people do some pretty cool builds of the Dragon offering ....

I choose this kit, because I like Dragon a lot and had this on the shelf.
I ordered the following upgrade sets:

Masterclub metal tracks
Miniarm resin road wheels
Aber 30mm barrel
Eduard BMP-2 upgrade set

Also aftermarket decals will be added since the ones with the kit are fairly outdated

Will update with photo's ones I've received them in the mail.

Should prove to be a most interesting build. I'll be interested to see how you get on with those master club tracks. I have a few sets in the stash but I've yet to build any.
All that aftermarket should really dress her up well.

My aftermarket bits and pieces arrived today!



Some very nice looking things in it for sure.
The tracks will be a bit of a challenge. About 200 0.6 by 2.5 mm pins have to be put in to assemble them!

Not sure when I will start the build. Finishing some other kits at the moment first!

You should think about getting yourself a photobucket account bud.
It resizes your images automatically on the forum and you can include more than three images per post. Unlike the attachments that only allow three.

There's quite a few builds now that a getting a make over with the aftermarket.

Not sure yet about which nation's BMP I will paint it. I'm thinking of either Russian in Afghanistan or modern day Syrian camouflage pattern. Haven't really looked up a lot of references for BMP paint jobs.
If anyone has a cool suggestion, please post them!

Hello all.

Small update.

I have decided I will build a modern day Syrian BMP-2. After seeing a number of video fragments on youtube I saw that most of them have two large antenna which weren't included in the kit, nor int he aftermarket stuff I bought earlier.



I will start building the kit next week after I complete my current project! More updates then!

Hello all. Herby my first real update on the BMP-2 project. I haven’t done any building as of yet, however I did start with the kit. I started burnishing the tracks.

Here are the tracks out of the box (Masterclub metal tracks set number MTL35042)



Before I was able to burnish these had to do a little cleanup. There were a few tracks that needed a little bit of cleaning up. There were some tracks with quite a bit of excess metal on them, but there were only a few with quite a bit, but these were easily cleaned up.




After a nice rinse cleaning the tracks with some warm water and washing up liquid they were left to dry.



I used Ultimate Burnishing Liquid to burnish them for about 15 minutes.



They came out really nice!



Left is assembling. This will be quite tricky since you need to add two 0.6 by 5 mm pins either side of the track. Should keep me entertained for a bit!

It has been a while since I last posted something for this built. Finally I´m able to post some updatephotos

Everything on the hull and turret which has to be taken off to be replaced by photoetched parts later has been removed. I hope to start adding some photoetched parts this weekend so i can write another update.

New update:
All the photoetched has been placed on the hull and the hull has been primed and the basecolour is on the hull now. I’m still working on the turret and tracks. i have decided to paint it like a BMP-2 like seen in the current Syrian conflict.

First layer of paint will be russian green. There will be a sand colour sprayed over, but this green is for the chipping

My final and rather long update. In my other tread in the Final Reveals section of this group build I have posted some pictures of the finished build.

The turret with some of the photo etched stuff attached. I do not have a lot of experience with photoetched parts, but I enjoy working with them and I love how detailed it makes the model look

I used Scratched Effects by Mig to achieve the chipping effect look.




This Scratched effects gives a nice look to the vehicle



I spend about 5 hours of putting pins in the tracks to complete them. This was quite tedious, but the tracks look really good now. In the Final Reveal you can see the result.
