Chiefs Airfix 1/72 Eurofighter Typhoon

Hey fellas

I'm back already! With the harrier done, I made a start on this tonight.



A much older kit, started out in '99 if I recall. It's had a couple of decal and part upgrades since then, but it's still very basic.

6 steps in the instructions, 4.5 of which I've done tonight, lol! All the parts are nicely moulded, with only a tiny bit of flash on a couple of parts. Think the canopy may need a polish too.

However, in the following pics you'll see that it's going to need a fair bit of filling and sanding before I can paint it!





That should keep me busy for a while, lol!

I'll be marking this up as an XI Sqn typhoon that was part of 906 Expeditionary Air Wing, that flew combat missions in Libya 2011 during Operation Ellamy, flying out from Gioia del Colle Air Base in Italy. As seen below

Yep, got a few tank kills in Libya, its first combat action.

Yeah they were never used in Afghan (Harriers and Tornado GR.4s did that for us), but they were used in Libya as Chief says.

Hey fellas

Update on the typhoon.

I added a few odds and sods to the cockpit area, just to add interest. It was a bit bare oob.



Then I dry fitted the canopy to find another problem!



So I added a couple of fillets from plasticard. I'll make the rest up with pva when the canopy is fitted.



Got everything sanded down, realised this has raised panel lines, so I got rid of those too. This is where I'm at now, just waiting for everything to properly dry before priming to check for more faults

Too bad the kit has some fitting issues but even with those you are racing through the build

Hi guys,

Quick update on this.

First layer of paint showed where I'd been a bit too enthusiastic when sanding off the raised panel lines!



A coat of Alclad micro filler primer got rid of most of it. A bit of a polish and it should be fine. I still struggle spraying that stuff, I had to take the needle out of the ab and use it like a single action ab!



I fashioned a Litening pod out of scrap, not the best but it will be hard to see. You don't get paveway bombs in the kit, so I needed to make this as it was used in conjunction with the bombs.



All glossed up ready for decals.

Last quick update on this.

Decals added, and then scribed some panel lines into the paint. May have been a bit heavy handed, lol!



Finally, added a bit of 'weathering' . The Eurofighter is pretty awesome, but it's bloody boring as a model!
