1/35 Dragon King Tiger + Sd.Kfz. 7/2 3.7cm Flak 36 Diorama w Figures, 3D Printing and more (Picture heavy)

Hello everyone! First post here at ISM if you want to know who I am, check my profile

I suddenly wanted to build a scale model after about 7 years since I "quit" the hobby so I went online and started to look around for models. I made a huge order with new paint, glue and various tools and a Dragon King Tiger (6302) kit and decided to do a diorama instead. This will be a learning experience for me since Im basically new to this art Please note im not aiming to be historically correct, I just want to make a cool diorama!

Here is my (sort of) planning list:

• *One large crew performing maintenance on a german King Tiger
  *Large trench for vehicle repair and resupply
  *AA gun next to the repair-area
  *Camo netting
  *Wet-ish mud and withered leaves
  *Ammoboxes everywhere, maybe some empty shells here and there
  *3D Printed base, to be covered with putty, only purpose to fill space so I wont have to use pounds of putty.

Making some planning, this is what i came up with with the loading crew


Getting down the basic colors, will drybrush highlights etc later


Tank Painted! I was so dumb that i put on the tracks before I painted everything, but i managed to remove, paint and then assemble it again.
Painted the tracks with Humbrol 113 Rust, created a little wash with Vallejo fresh rust and enamel thinner and kinda drybrushed it on the tracks.


Applied some decals straight to the zimmerit, Humbrol decal fix was working better than expected. also made some weathering with what i had, Vallejo Fresh rust and European earth, i have more pigments arriving soon so i can bring in more colors. I will clean up the dust later







Got down the basic colors for the engine, I ordered some lead wire to make the engine come to life


This will look so much better when i have more pigments to use, and it will come to life with a gloss coat

The diorama sounds epic, looking forward to seeing it come to life.

As for historical accuracy, this forum is about having fun and enjoying your hobby.

Some people go for all out realism and are commended for it, others just want the smell of paint in their nostrils and to get their fingers stuck together! Come one, come all!!

While I wait for my packages I can just start doing all the booring work..

Time to paint shells, and a lot of them.


All the (not counted) 200.000.000 shells masked and ready for paint!


Painted all the shells, I will paint some silver at the tips to add detail and paint some shells yellow.


Painting figures, I dont like doing this at all.. but its coming out OK

I made some work on the AA halftruck, I think I'm about 50% done with building it.





I also did more work on the engine, added some lead wire and a gray-ish wash, I'm going to add in some old rust just to give it a touch


Here is a schwimmwagen i built many years ago.. so why not have it in the diorama!

More weathering on the engine, just some rust, looks good enough.



Since I have more pigments now I can get rid of that pink-ish color

Tried to do some splattering on the sides


Also did some more mud weathering on the schwimmwagen


I need to add a bit more thick mud on to the schwimmwagen and then hit it with some gloss varnish

AA ready for painting
This was the trickiest part of the whole kit, it felt like just the gun had more parts than the vehicle itself.


More work on the vehicle..




Primed everything in dunkelgelb and made stripes with armor brown.






More stripes with armor green






Painted the interiour of the engine area in a gray color to give a little contrast.


Painted the barrel and engine in gunmetal (Humbrol 53)

Made progress on the engine and the driver cabin today!

I have not added the steering wheel yet but i will. I need to fade the mud on the floor, its too outlined right now in my opinion. Also the seats looks like its made of rock or something, its just painted gray with a black wash mixed with some white spirit so the colors would kinda react and mix together... Well it didn't work out too well but i guess if i'd be making rocks this would be perfect.


The engine turned out better than expected, i painted the whole thing gunmetal, then i painted the large top part in rusty brown and hit the whole thing with a black wash, then i hit the whole area it with a rust wash and brushed of the excess with a dry brush.



I only have to assemble and paint the tracks, mud them up and then i can start on the diorama itself!
