Academy 1/48 F-86F Sabre "The Huff" Limited Edition

Sharing the pics of my recent work. A model kit of Lt. Jim Thompson's Sabre "The Huff" flown in the Korean War..

Wow, really great work. I have this one in my stash,along with a 1/48 Mig 15 from Tamiya, and I plan to build them together (kind of like showing both sides of the fight).

How was it to build this model, I know the cartograf decals are great to work with but I have had some real piglike kits from Academy in the past and I am hoping that this one will be somewhat easy to build.

Thanks guys for all the appreciation. Rosco I also just finished my Mig 15 same from Tamiya 1/48, I'll put the pics of that soon too just have some finishing touches to do on that. As far as the kit is of concern, I liked this kit in particular considering it was from Academy. I am not a big fan of Academy kits. They lack consistency on the quality of the kits they produce. But this Sabre kit was good, just a few gaps in the fitting which wasn't hard to fill. The decals provided in the kit are of top quality. They are thick but once placed with the decal solution they tend to shrink and almost dissolve on the body. However one decal in particular on the fuselage, the yellow one which wraps all around the body was pain. It ends didnt meet perfectly, so a heads up on that. Otherwise it was a good kit to work on.

Looking forward to seeing that Mig, and thanks for the heads up on the fuselage decal, I'll try and be carefull with it. On that note, what setting solution did you use (I have Micro Set and Sol but I knocked my bottle of sol over and... well... there isn't much left. I got the Tamiya setting solution as a alternative until my local hobby store gets more stock of Micro Sol)

Also, it's good news to me that this kit only has minor fit issues (the Academy 1/48 F-14 I built was.. special when it came to fit)

We do not have much of an option over here in Pakistan Rosco, for paints and accessories, as there's very small modelling community over here. Micro Set and Sol would be the best to use I guess, looking at tutorials online, but I have never used them as you don't find them here in my country. I feel you, in SA, unless you are willing to deal with importing (inadvisable) or are willing to drive ±300km to the 1 store in the country that stocks AK or MIG products you are pretty much stuck with Tamiya > Humbrol > Revell. To be honest I was lucky to get the Micro products...

But if you managed to get that good a finish on the decals with a (supposedly) inferior setting solution, then you are either VERY good or these decals are VERY cooperative, either way I am getting more and more exited to start this one.
