1/35 Tamiya Panzer III AusfN

Always wanted to try out german armor so this will be the experiment. Kit is a Tamiya 1/35. Currently just completed priming with stynylrez.





Slight modification that I noticed I've been doing for the last few Tamiya kits (shermans mostly) is that I tend to put a shim for the vertical movement of the barrel. By default it seems loose and if I'll be using heavier barrels next time around, this mod will be a must.

Neat idea on the shim there, your quite right that sometimes the elevation feature can be a little loose on kits, giving barrel sag.

Yeah it was pretty evident on the Shermans but for this one the movement of the barrel is pretty small but I still want to make sure that it will stay put better.

Worked on the base coat for today. I guess a mental note would be not to bother with pre shading when painting german grey

Tracks were also painted with Tamiya dark iron XF-84. This is starting to be the GO-TO paint for tracks. I wonder why their online catalog never got updated to reflect this color. Sorry no pics since it couldn't capture the colors well enough.

Doing a great job on the paint work. As for pre shading you will be surprised what those subtle layers will do for a paint job

Started the winter camo last week using washable white paint but didn't work out so well when hand brushed so I had to repeat the whole ordeal using an airbrush. For some reason washable white paint does not fade out as quick and easy as the ones in youtube videos.

I'm thinking of fading it out more but damn washing off the paint is hard work. Any suggestions?

Done with the detail work and a coat of satin. Next up decals and weathering

I've seen where they have done washable + chipping liquid and build up the effect on several layers. Very cool camo!

I actually have a bottle of Mig chipping effects but I have yet to try it. This is the first time using washable paint so I try not to experiment too much with multiple products. I might have to check that tutorial out though

Personly I don't like washable. I go tamiya and hs and build it up with oil paints and layers of varnish. Washable might be more "true" but it gives the least amount of workable contrast. Good luck buddy!

yeah I wasn't expecting to make a winter camo from this build initially but I was forced into it. It was my first time using washable paint as well and I could say that is was a learning experience. Will be working on the kit in the next few days and hopefully it would come out "displayable"
