Pegasus Hobbies - The Nautilus 1/144 scale

I am surprised you don't see any Pegasus kits on this forum - they make epic stuff.

Anyway I decided to take a break from building tanks - as I just spent the last three months building only two. My son tells me I should make the model under his bed. What - my kid has a model under his bed? He brings this out, forgot I picked this up about a year ago.

I figure why not?

I've seen this kit built up at a few shows and on the net. Folks seem to love the thing.

Saw a good one done at IPMS Vancouver meet...Woden base housing lighting for the sub

I saw a guy do one and it had lights and all, looked amazing! I thought about trying that but it was only a thought. I'm looking to build a model here not some engineering marvel of the 21 Century, plus I'd probably melt the model or burn this place down if I attempt lights. Keeping it basic here, matching my skill level - basic.

I've been working on this kit over the weekend.

The kit comes with this great mask for the "Windows" they take some time to apply (about an hour for me).

I masked the Windows before installing them - as that has to be easier.

Next I've decided to build the squid base, it looks like the perfect thing for holding the model while I work on it. My kid asked if I was going to paint all the suction cups on the arms, I nodded yes, he laughed and shook his head then went back to Fallout 4.

love the kit, thought of picking it up a few times. that mask looks epic, I'd hate to have to do all that myself!

so far no building / fitting problems. Had to hold the hull together while the glue dried as there really is no way to clamp it together. But thus far no issues.

Today's progress - took a picture of the most complex of the instruction page - easy stuff.

I do use the cement and not the extra thin on these large parts.

The kit detail is - gee I don't know - impressive!

Okay all the large parts are on - next is the PE parts - the crazy thing about the PE parts is I've no doubt I'll bend them once it is on the model - the base isn't the sturdiest and the sub does slip off the base easily. Which, I am sure will crush the PE. Had to use some masking sol on some parts as there were no mask for the light parts.

Are you going to secure the sub to the squid after you're done, or keep them separated?
Is the squid head a separate piece from the rocks, or all they attached to one another?

looks great! still think you should try out some LEDs

My dead duck Canadian looney and the shipping puts this well over $100 CAD

Think it would be hard to secure the sub to the squid - really only two of those arms hold the sub and the arms are more like rubber and not hard plastic - they move - or rather have some flexibility to them. I am thinking Ill add some type of tack on the areas where the sub and arms meet to secure the sub better.

The squid is separate from the base. And I suppose you could glue the arms onto (or rather into) the squid body but it's not necessary - mine are just pushed in and they are holding fine. The squid head/body is kind of cool in that it has a weight inside to keep it in place.

I really thought about adding LED lights - if you go on youtube and go to this guy's channel he has a build thread on there this model and does put in the LED - channel name is; Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic - on a side note, one of the best painters out there - really explains stuff well. However, if you watch that thread, I kind of concluded that the LED would not be worth the effort too much - did not seem to enhance the model much. But you - on the other hand - are the Perfect guy to build one of these with LED lights.

Yea, here in Denver they are $65 plus the violent extortion of a tax by our tyrannical government - pushing this model up to $70 US dollars.

I'm thinking if I try this model to maybe try out a few things differently... time will tell. And I shall accept your challenge sir. I have yet to try LEDs in model kits, and when I give this kit a go, I shall do my bestest, for you! ...but that also means we all know who's name I'll be swearing and yelling when I shock myself a few times

Three hours of PE stuff, about the fragile stuff ever, but now I will paint - which means I have to transport it to my office - which is where the painting area is set up.

Finished the base coats- then I sealed with a satin gloss finish to give it a wet look. Weathering is next.

all those rivets and plates look amazing, victorian engineering on a sub, absolutely brilliant. Your doing a great job cant wait to see her all weathered up.

would this fit into the floaty thing group build? or if there is a non ism buddy build going on, got room for another? i could be possibly...probably..maybe be persuaded to buy this kit some time next year. seen the kit on ebay uk for anywhere between £40-60 then a paragrafix pe set for £23. I had already followed Dr Faust doing his and that kind of set my mind to thinking i would try that some day.

Something doesn't get picked in the GB poll,I think I'll ask if I can have my own non- military build like a:
"Film, movie, tv show / series, video game, or table game, Science fiction, race car / motor bikes build"

I'll throw this kit in as the prize with my own money and I'll ship it anywhere on planet earth to the winner.

I would let a float plane into the floaty things build as well...it says floaty in the darn name FCOL

Last year topics were pretty limiting IMHO if you aren't into armour it was pretty bleak. Would hope it opens up a bit this year.

I think this site caters to the airplane builder - but hey if it's your web page and you have a hard-on for planes then I guess you get planes.

I think the individual sponsored builds are the trend here, that Star War build is awesome. You come up with a build and give away a top end prize - it will be popular and appreciated. And if that's what it takes to move this hobby forward then I'll put up my own C note to do it

I don't think the aftermarket PE is worth it, only adds one new item, and that item fits in the interior.

Finished the rock base and the squid. The colors for the squid were in the purple range, I am going to give both of these a Satin gloss today.

Started weathering on sub, and still have quite a bit to do still.

The black squid eye will be last thing to paint.

That is looking like a good idea as that cool movie build idea is getting hammered in the polls
The last auto GB had 24 builds two years ago....I guess that isn't enough interest

Yeah I reckon I would build that car as well. It was on telly the other night, haven't seen it for decades and it still stands up; brilliant film, really captures a time and a place.
