1/48 Tamiya A10

Old raised panel line but very nice kit. No build issues at all. Undercart a bit fiddly but my fat fingers not the kit's fault. Finished in Tamiya paint as per the call out, Ultimate light dirt wash and Winsor and Newton burnt umber oil wash. Matt finish Alclad II Klear Cote Matt. Only problem was some silvering on the tail numbers. Probably not enough gloss coat. But there was enough lead in the nose to make it sit on the nosewheel, yay! The model weighs a ton.

81st TFW, 511th TFS, RAF Bentwaters, Suffolk, England. Deployed to Gulf War 1. This was a typical load out for this unit during Gulf ops, except the 500 pounders should be on the pylons inboard of the wheels rather than the fuselage stations, but the kit wasn't engineered for this and would have been a bit of a faff to sort. The 500 pounders could be carried where they are on the model so that's OK with me.

Just reminded me of an A10 story. When I was in the mob I was doing some leadership training down in Devon and I was assaulting a beach (from a real WWII landing craft believe it or not). We got to the first checkpoint and we were having a five minute rest break when I heard a couple of A10's above. They were diving and making great attack patterns. We were all going 'Oooh' and 'Ahh' when the distaff (referee if you like) strolls up to me and says 'You're all dead, those A10's have just bombed the sh*t out of you.'

Well no one told me the Yanks were on the other side. Still, they 'revived' me and my team after I complained of foul play. Finished up kidnapping a Puma and made an exit from Exmoor at nought feet and 120 kts.

Quick question - what's the model sitting on? Is that an adjustable model airplane stand?! Do you use it to display, or for painting??

Thanks guys. Mikey it's a JH models stand. Invaluable, I use it all the time for building, it is adjustable and they do different sizes for different scales.
