Another picture filled update guys....
I have so much to do and so little time to do it in.... This may well be a push to the finish line. If i fail to finish it will be a first time to admit defeat and a shame as i should have had plenty of time...

So, what have i been up to i hear you say....
Detailing and cockpits guys.... Come take a look..

No ship is complete without a collection of guns. Lets start with those then ..





Lots of little bits to build and detail the guns with.









More on the guns later. Its Cockpit time and i need to work it as it still resembles a cake icing piping nozzle.
I have dared myself to open up the windows and build a cockpit interior and a pilot figure.... #I must be mad#

Yeah.... its small.... please forgive the crude sculpting and rubbish macro pictures... lol...







She sits in there quite nicely..

An old lolipop/sucker stick, the styrene type..































Oh, them guns are dry and trimmed ready to add once the main hull is painted and the gun canopy glass has been unmasked..

... and i think we are ready for paint to the main hull. The cockpit needs some work, and glass, and painting but i have made that piece separate so i can add it last.. ya see.... method in my madness... lol...

Right i think that's a nice high picture count for now... lol..

Another real quick..( hahaha... yeah right... I hear you say!)... Update.

So last time we finished off with the final big detailing session...
Today we continue the cockpit, guns and even apply some poundland/Dollar store grey auto primer for a dark base coat..

The Falcon and the Otana both have a similar front cockpit glass area/wind shield.
Its gonna be another micro cut piece..





Sanding cocktail sticks... a must for the Ultimate development department me thinks... Copyright Wappynutter.. lol...











Just the center bar to add then it can be primed..
Guns are finished..











Taping up ready to prime. Gonna prime as 2 hull halfs then join together once i have finished the detail painting on the cockpit neck/corridor piece.









The top piece on the cardboard is the rear engine piece.



Dark grey Auto primer is applied..























Well i think the detail stands out well now so thats a plus..
So i promised a "Quick" update but still managed to inflict mass image overload... Sorry guys...

Back again..... Another quick progress report on the Otana..
A good collection of pictures again, but as i have made 3 or 4 posts over the past week or so this wont be a massive one..
So..... Cockpit and some painting time!.. Yay!!

I also managed to grab 1 whole hour to myself this morning so.... Painting Fairy time!!..
Chose Modelcolor "Off White"..





Lay my spraying cardboard out on the worktop and made a start..







































So apart from me over thinning the paint and then laying on to many coats too close together before the other had dried causing some fat edges and sags out of the panel lines... That should get me far enough in to paint the detail and close up the hull.
A quick flat down and another couple of thin coats can then be applied once the hull is in 1 piece to make it all uniform and lose the sags.

The Solar Car is still my favourite build... This mini build is by far the most complex and small scale detailed one!.
Hoping the Modelling Gods shine on me this next 2 weeks so I can finish it all up before I nip to Paris with the Mrs and Kiddies for a week before Christmas with Mickey Mouse and Santa!.

Hey Nige, thanks for dropping by mate. Glad you like the cockpit, the first part of this update will list the finishing up of the cockpit and a little painting.. Hope you enjoy the post..

So yeah, another update, may be my last we'll see. gotta push on as i leave for my hols in 9 days..
... and as usual there is Sooooo much to do..

Time is really limited and obviously the baby take priority.
Also i dont wanna rush and ruin it as i have come so far and put my heart and soul into this build. It really has been a love/hate relationship for a long time...
Anyways... Progress report.. and as always..

Talking of cockpit earlier i thought i would share its humble beginnings in its Asda/Walmart packaging..









..and as it looks all with the interior installed... See the smiling happy pilot in there?? lol..

Time to add the glass and outer hull skin... You'll see....
Thin plastic packaging film...





Cut...... wrap...... glue..... carefully...



First part of the outer plating...



First though we'll hot glue the back wall in to seal up the back...









Then using Revell glue, zip-tied the piece while it dried adding to help hold the glass plastic in place...











It worked so once dry i continued with the lower cockpit hull plating..



CA glue and Revel glue used this time... very carefully. I tested the CA first with some off cuts practice for fogging etc... Seemed okay.







Time to re create the glazing bars and PVA glue them on the clear glass plastic..















So i have in effect created a sandwich of styrene with a clear plastic filling... lol....

...and the nose section gets its clear glass plastic PVA glued on..



The off white looks better with a flat down and another couple of coats..









Painted some detail panels on the cockpit corridor..





... and finally....... #Blows trumpets.... Ta-Da!!# glue the hulls together....







A few teething problems with alignment and warpage but not overly stressful. Used every glue i have to close it up including 2 pack epoxy..

Back to the cockpit as it needs finishing and a mask off and prime..









... and side by side with the original piping piece it started off as..



I spy a pilot....



I do love a good detailed hull...





Cockpit is masked off!...





... and primed....





Time to check the lights...



Still having warpage problems here.... Not now though...



Gonna glue up the engine piece and check for light leakage.... This is all your doing Scott, if it don't work we all blaming you mate.. lol.

Yes they still work... a little light leakage on the engine itself but no where else.... easy cure then.....

Cockpit got a coat of off white to match the hull now....





Engine got its cover on while i repaint over the black out and filler i added in the joints that leaked blue light..









Okay nearly up to date.. Got a three tone camo to paint on... Yep, some coloured panels, light grey, dark grey and a grey blue couple.
This is a little like the Falcon scheme. Not gonna be worn and chipped like the Falcon, but will get a wash, pin and panelfade treatment... Hopefully...

Bottom first...

So...as you can tell i am real happy with how that turned out.. This is my progress for now. I will paint up the detail panels around the gun turret sides and tape up the top panels over this weekend, may even get the top panels painted by Monday. Then it'll be a gloss coat and pin wash etc....
Maybe i will get finished on time.. we'll see.. Wish me luck guys..

Fingers crossed for a final update next weekend with a final reveal on the Monday night before i depart Tuesday afternoon for Paris.

Still spraying the camo panels as I write this. All the two tone grey and blue is finished top and bottom. Some detail painting then a gloss coat, that's tomorrow's mission. Gonna try this aquagloss and try not to fluff it up!.. Lol..

Ha... High-speed it is Scott and not forgetting it goes under the sea for 30 miles in the Eurotunnel.
The air pressure is like flying, makes your ears pop and muffles the sound..
A lot of holiday makers I have noticed have actually cancelled their Paris Disney trips fearing the terrorist threats recently.
We still going, its cost too much to cancel so close. Lol..

This should be my final update..... Fingers crossed for a reveal before the release next week....
Lots of pictures for the last time guys!....
ISM Facebook users will have already seen the progress so i apologise if all this is old news for you guys..

So i have finished detailing the bottom...





The upper hull got the same treatment..





Grey...



Dark grey....





Blue...

Painted the gunners window frames top and bottom..







Time to add the guns..

















Before adding a Ultimate Dark Dirt wash i Aquagloss the entire build..













.... and look at those panel lines POP!...













Once happy with the clean up i glossed to seal it all in then put the question to the ISM Facebook community asking for honest, constructive criticism as opposed to weathering and finish. The contrast between dark lines and white panels was too stark and needed something i just wasn't sure what..







It was decided over the course of the post to add some smoke etc.. to simulate dust, wear and grime..
A coat of 70/30 mix Ultimate thinner/Vallejo Smoke was dusted over the model followed by a similar mix of Buff colour..
In the artificial light the results looked like my Otana had a 60 a day smoking habit, but once natural daylight was available i set to work with Ultimate thinner and cotton buds to clean up and give a suitable finish...











I continued to work until...... well i wont share any more here...
Needless to say the clean up gave the desired effect, i have umm'd and ahh'd over panel streaking but have chosen to just Flat Matt coat, mount on the base, wire the lights and take a load of Reveal pictures...
That's saved for the reveal as i am about to mix up the Matt coat and start spraying in the morning..
A BIG Thanks to the In-Law KingDan for the use of the new Improved Dark Dirt Wash, and also the bottle of Vallejo Smoke donated to the cause.. Cheers dude..
