Bobba Fett Slave 1

With my trench run diorama getting closer to the finish I thought I would do a quick and simple build as well. So took out my Fine Molds 1/144 Slave 1, this is a really nice kit, just falls together didn't even need any filler.







Started with building and painting the cockpit, just a light grey and detailed with black, dark grey and a few other colors. For a wash I wanted to try something new so I applied a coat of Citadel Shade Nuln Oil. I like how it turned out and was pretty easy to do.







The rest of the parts assembled, fit is really good.





For painting I started with a light pink on the lower hull, some parts of this was masked using a sponge and liquid latex. Then painted a light grey, more latex and then red and dark grey.





The main hull was painted in RLM02 followed by chipping fluid and light grey. Then using a wet brush I chipped off some of the grey.



Removed all the masking and also added some dark green to some of the panels. This is pretty much two days work, now the fun begins with weathering.

I have started the slow progress of weathering. For this I decided to only use oils and I'm not doing any real panel line wash or slush wash as I some times think that can give a bit too OTT effect. So I started with an oil dot filter using MIG 502 dark mud, dark rust and faded navy blue, the first thing I did was brush some thinner on the surface as the paint has been flat coated and then dabbed the three colors on the model. These where then streaked using a damp wide flat brush. This gives a really subtle effect that is really hard to photograph, but can be seen by the eye.









After waiting 24 hours for the coat to dry I added a second oil dot filter, this time using more dark rust as well as star ship filth and luftwaffe yellow. The difference here is that I'm using a dry brush to do the streaking which gives a bigger effect but still no real streaks just color variations. The right stabilizer thing has had both of the filters applied and the left one only the first. It's still hard to see in the picture but there is a color variation over the surface and not just to same shade of grey.





Now I just need to wait another 24 hours before I can add another layer of oils.

Time for the next layer of weathering. For this I used the same three oil colors as well as Luftwaffe yellow. This layer has been put on really thin pretty much like a filter.



Started with putting a small amount of paint in a corner of one panel.



Then using a brush with only thinner I blended it over the whole panel.



Then continuing with different colors on the next panel making sure no panels that are next to each other gets the same color.



It's a bit easier to see the effect here, one panel faded with blue and one with rust. I increased the saturation on this picture to show off the effect a bit more. The idea of this is that almost every panel gets a layer to break up the surface, an added bonus to this some paint collects in the panel lines and adding a panel line wash. One thing that I like with this is that the panel lines aren't just black or a dark brown but they have bit of color variation.



All panels done, next up is some streaking.

One of the best looking ships in Star Wars! Great work on the chipping, too. Although, bounty hunting must have taken a down turn. Otherwise Bobba could have afforded a new paint job!

This thing is pretty much done, just a small bit of clean up to do. Last bit of weathering to do was to add a few streaks. For this I used dark rust and starship filth oil paints. Started with painting small streaks of the different colors.



Next dragged the paint using a damp wide flat brush.



And finally cleaned up and feathered the streak using a dry wide flat brush.
