Replacement airbrush colour for aircraft grey HU166

Post by Bigjimmyauk »

I'll be dashed if I can find a suitable replacement, preferably model air as that's what I like to use. Anyone have any recommendations on what a equivalent would be. I'm working from Humbrol 166 so need a very similar shade. It's just the HU paints really don't airbrush well.

Thanks in advance

Could you tell us what the subject is that you want to paint
It could help with the color advice
And what kind of paint do you prefer (enamel or acrylic)

It's a BAe harrier GR3 airfix kit but I'm doing the second optional paint scheme B-NO233 operational conversion unit 1976. The whole undercarriage is HU166 light aircraft grey I think it's called.

Oh and acrylic paint, preference to vallejo as I can work and mix that well.

I think that the 71049 medium sea grey and 71050 light grey come pretty close
You can always mix them up a bit to get the best color match
Those are both modelair paints btw

Went to a local shop and tried 049 and 050 both are well off. Hu 166 actually looks like a pale creamy colour VAL 49 and 50 are true shades of grey.

Is there anyway I can attach a photo?

The example in the converter app i used must be wrong then
The 049 looked very close to the humbrol color
If you have a photo bucket account you can post a photo
i don't know how the regular attachment method works though
There are some color converter charts on here aswell maybe those have a awnser
