Ultimate Wash issue

Post by P51dplt »

Has anyone else had this problem with the Ultimate wash staining the gloss finish? I applied a few good coats of Klear, let it cure for a few days, added the wash, tried removing it as per the instructions and am left with this awful mess. Any ideas???

are you sure you covered all of the paintwork with Klear?

what did you use to try to remove the wash?
how long did you leave it before you tried to remove it?

I've using the washes for over a year and haven't had any issues, so this is very odd

Yes, the Klear was fully covering all the paintwork. Had multiple costs over both the paint and decals. I used tap water and kitchen roll to remove it. Maybe it softened the Klear due to the moisture???

I've only had that happen when my gloss coat isn't applied well.
For example, I've applied the gloss by brush, or I haven't let it cure long enough, its not in enough coats, or I've used future as a varnish (something that I will never do again).
All of these things have created the same effect on some of my work.

These days I always spray at least two coats of alclad's Aqua gloss (my go-to gloss), wait 8-12 hours, then apply the washes.
Then I know the result will be perfect everytime.

If you haven't sealed your work yet you can remove the wash with glass clean that contains ammonia.
It works best if you used future as your gloss, but I've managed to remove a stubborn wash with it on standard acrylic gloss.

Its just your clear coat wasn't good enough, i stopped using floor polish ages ago in favour of the far superior aqua gloss.

You can still remove that though using the green side of our Ultimate buffer. Ditch the floor polish and use a good gloss like aqua gloss

Thanks for the replies Coen and Paul. The floor polish will be used on the floors now! I'm trying to save the finish now, fingers crossed.

Paul,
What Aqua gloss do you recommend? I see several different kinds available. Some are crystal clear and others are opaque in the photos.

Thanks.

A dampened cotton wool bud will sort that out, i use future and it does happen sometimes which is why I've taken more to using Ultimate washes as a pinwash, takes longer to apply but less time to clean up.
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.
