MFH March 701 Tyrrell

Post by JonMW »

With a lot of my other projects done it is time to start a car model again. Wanted to do a pretty detailed and complex kit so I went into my stash of Model Factory Hiro kits. I decided to build the March 701 1/20 Formula 1 car that Jackie Stewart drove for the Tyrrell team in the Spanish GP in 1970.

The kit comes in the normal red MFH box

And is filled with about 200 metal parts, over 100 PE parts, resin, rivets and more.

First up is to build the monocoque and front suspension

For the monocoque I just used a brass wire brush to polish the white metal parts, then detail painted a couple parts. Next up is to paint the rest of the parts and start the assembly. I have two weeks off work now so the plan is to try to get this done in that time.

A bit more work and the front suspension is finished. The only things left on the front end is the fire extinguisher, battery and radiator, just need to paint the extinguisher and put some clear on a couple of the body panels before I can add those and move on to the engine.

Thanks for the comments! The MFH kits aren't the cheapest kits in the world but you get quite a bit in the box. Usually the price is around 200-220 pounds, but they have a lot of kits that no one else makes.

A bit more progress, managed to get the engine build, just added spark plug wires and fuel lines. Also got started on the rear suspension, this build is going pretty well so far with everything fitting like it should.

Thanks.

Got the rear suspension pretty much done. Main things left now are the body, wheels and plumbing so not too much. Will need to get some clear coat before can continue so it will be a few days.
