SD KFZ 251 Project

Post by Glen »

Hi all

As you maybe aware earlier this year I was given a wheel which has come from a SD KFZ 251, which is a German Half Track, it is in the picture below modeled by a re-inactor at Upottery.
Image

he wheel came from the Bastogne Area and has battle damage, and was given to me by one of the of Helen Patton entourage who was there. So what do you do with this wheel may you ask.

The only thing i could think off was to use it to form part of a display. There are 4 types of 251, Ausf A,B,C & D, with 23 variants. So I put my plan together, so since July this year I have put the wheel in motion (excuse the pun), looking out for and obtaining kits and at Telford grabbed a few bargains. There are 8 holes around the outside of the wheel so each hole wheel represent a model in 1/35 scale, with the center hole I wheel(another pun) use for information.

The list of kits are as follows all 1/35 scale:-

Zvenda(3625) SD KFZ 251/1 Ausf B Stuka Zu Fuss
Zvenda(3604) SD KFZ 251/3 Ausf B Radio Car
AFV Club (AF35251) SD KFZ 251/9 Ausf C Early Kanonwagon
AFV Club (AF35082) SD KFZ 251/21 Ausf D Drilling
AFV Club (AF35083) SD KFZ 251/22 Ausf D Pakwagon
Tamiya(35147) SD KFZ 251/9 Ausf D Late Kanonwagon
Tamiya(3520) SD KFZ 251/1 Ausf A Hanomag
Dragon(6233) 3 in1 kit SD KFZ 251/20 Ausf D Night Vision Falke

There will be plenty of camouflage schemes involved in these builds which should break up the boredom, I have just got to finish a small diorama I am working on at the moment, then I will be making a start on them.

More information on the SD KFZ 251 can be found here http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/n ... anomag.php

I will post pictures as I go along for you all.
