All figure Arnhem Diorama 1/35

Post by Hanger2 »

I loosely based this Dio on a period photograph of War Correspondent Alan Wood of the Daily Express typing his dispatch.

I thought I would include the guy taking the photograph as well and these 2 figures came from the Bronco War Correspondents set, the rest of the figures came from 2 Masterbox sets.

Now for the Para's.

The base I made using my usual MDF/ply, polystyrene pieces and cheap powdered filler.

Image

When this was dry I added some cobbles to a section of road using 3 different sizes of cobbles and some kerb edging. These I made from Diorama Debris silicon moulds I bought from Andy Preston at Trackpads.

Image

Image

Image

I glued the cobbles down with White PVA and allowed them to dry. Then I sprinkled kiln dried sand, which is very fine, over the roadway and brushed it in the gaps. This was then given a good soaking of a watery mix of water, PVA and a few drops of washing up liquid, applied with a pipette.

Image

I next made some bramble type bushes at one end of the board using hanging basket lining fibre

Image

With the base painted a dark earth colour which was brushed roughly under and over the bushes I then then brushed on quite heavily neat PVA over the bramble stem and sprinkled on a mix of light and dark green and dark brown Railway type scenic spread to give the leaf effect.

Image

This was then left to dry.

Next the grass work, for this I used, for the first time, Model-Scene matting, which I got from Historex in Dover, very impressed even at £17 for a smallish sheet which did the base, just!

Image

This matting was glued in place using PVA yet again and left to dry for a couple of days

Then I added the figures

The map I used is of the Arnhem area which I copied off Google and reduced on my copier, I still have a few more bits and bobs to add like ammo and food boxes, a couple of water jerry cans, etc but hope you like it.

That is freaking fantastic!!! Right down to the cigarettes you nailed this
Your figures look spot on in their positions, arms and accoutrements. I am assuming you modified them to your needs as I don't see a pre made camera man or typewriter in the figure kits you show.
Awesome diorama work overall :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2:

Hope you like it, I am certainly pleased with the outcome and I have another all figure dio in my head already for which I have already painted the figures.

Just fell into this build, and WOW! you really knocked it out of the park with it, bet though the guy with the stick up the Arss, is a lot happier you sat him on the ground, lol. Again very outstanding build all the way around.

This is a fantastic diorama. Love the figures. My weakness. What paint did you use to paint the figures?
