HELP!!! Attaching PE parts?

Post by P51dplt »

Hey guys,
I'm attempting my first crack at using some PE parts. What type glue do you recommend for attaching this stuff? I tried some Super Glue, but it just seemed to pop right off the smooth texture of the PE.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

I use medium or thin consistency superglue, I just lightly rough up the smooth surface a little with the tip of my modelling knife it fine file.

They do still pop off though if you're a little bit rough with it

PE parts are usually quite small, so the bond will be weak. No matter what you use, you need to be very careful when handling once it's fitted. You need to plan ahead a bit too. You don't want to add all your delicate PE parts if you're going to be handling the model while painting for example.

Btw, as well as CA, I also use PVA or klear on PE parts, depending on location and strength required.

I was using medium cyanoacrylate but now I just use that for gap filling. All my PE and Resin are joined with thin cyanoacrylate.

Same here, thin and medium CA glue. I place them using some tack (patafix over here) on a toothpick.

There is no way around but hours and hours of getting to know your ca glues and material. Good luck and happy modelling. Tip you get what you pay for most of time.

I feel your pain. I have been looking for that magic glue to get photo etch to stick better. But sadly there is none. I like thick CA glue because it allows time to position the part before it sets and not as runny. Also there is the problem of having too nuch ca on the part and smearing it on the model. I avoid photo etch as much as I can. I know it gives your model more realistic detail. But I model for myself and I am happy with the plastic parts. That's why I love Dragon armor. Their kits usually have a choice of photo etch or plastic. When I do use PE I sand the surfaces of PE and the plastic.
